They should just change the HMI unit if it is faulty.

If you go to the secret menu with the software version as seen in your own picture and click that, it will tell you what date the firmware is, can you do this and take a picture or write the dates here.

That is the one i had.

This is the one that has all of the bugs in it.

Android auto not connecting most of the time.

No seperate volume sliders for each volume type (Radio / Android auto / navigation / Bluetooth volume)

Saved radio stations on the preset buttons loose their RDS name randomly.

It will cost you, but there will be a lot of bugs fixed.

Usually the version numbers are listed from most important to least important.

For example, if the 1 was to become a 2, that would be a major firmware rewrite, If the "36" changes, it means that significant bugs that would affect all users have been fixed, the 2 is for smaller bugs and the 6 is for really localized tiny bugs....For example, they changed a spelling error in one language.

So i dont think there will be a lot of difference between the 1.36.2.5 and the 1.36.2.6

i really did not think of this head unit update ordeal when i was buying the car. i naïvely thought it will work no matter the version of carplay/android auto. well, it did work...only for 3⅓ years. so it appears it is one of those schemes to milk the customer.

When my Zafira began making noises from the gearbox i asked around and was told that this was an extremely well known problem, with some of the bearings being to small, not able to take the load and poor lubrication of these bearings.

I took it to vauxhall, asked them to diagnose it, they came back saying that it was the gearbox, i told them that i knew this was a very common problem, but he still said that he had never heard about that before and they did not consider it a common problem and refused to do anything towards the price of repairing it.

I always meet these people with the thought that they are lying and trying to cheat me., this keeps me on my toes when they try to feed me bullshit. The internet is a great ressource to be knowledgeable enough to not take the bullshit.

It should not be an issue at all. The radio has wifi hardware, in the earlier versions you could find a wifi menu in the service menu, it would detect my home wifi, when i was parked in the driveway and it would connect.

All the needed hardware was there, it was a conscious decision by vauxhall to NOT include this feature.

When i had the radio partially upgraded, with the screen upside down, and chevrolet branding, it even had a "Check for new firmware" menu and a wifi menu.

When i connected to my wifi and pressed "Check for updates" it said "You have the latest version available" My guess is that it tried to connect to the upgrade server, they never set it up, and the firmware was programmed to say "you have the latest version" if it failed to connect to the server.

So all they had needed was to make these menu's available and set up a server with the firmware, and it COULD have been made to upgrade this way, making any concern about firmware a non issue.

Mobile phones has been able to do OTA updates for over 10 years and when the firmware was first developed in 2014/2015 almost all of my kit was updateable via the internet.

But not vauxhall.

I bet they did it like that to force people to pay the garages and vauxhall to do it.

Right now i dont care, the radio in my car works fine and 50% of the time it just does FM radio and the other 50% is android auto, and here it is google that updates the experience.

Radio's in the future will probably become little more than screens for the content on our phones, and at that time, firmware will not be an issue on these.

After the update i have no issues and have never had any issues.

I am in a country that google says, it does not support AA for, so i have to manually update AA, via apkmirror and i have done so every month when there is a new release, and after i got the radio updated, i have never had any problems with any of the AA versions, including the current 5.2 (Aah, just checked, 5.3 was released yesterday, have not tried that, but i do not expect problems )

I have read that other people have problems and have had to use an older version, but i think this might be more phone model specific as i have no problems.

The unit can be updated, and the upgrade will fix numerous problems like.

1. Individual volume sliders for phone/navigation/radio
2. Radio will not forget RDS names on saved FM channels
3. Android Auto will connect every time without problems...With 2015 firmware, most times you get a black screen.

Updating can only really be done by a shop. The update is 2 parts.

1. New firmware on a USB stick, put into the USB socket and turn on ignition...Radio will do the update and when finished the screen will be upside down and show chevrolet logo

2. Variant coding....To get the radio screen flippet around and program what features your car has and which it does not. Also to have the UI back to normal.

Part 2 can only be done by vauxhall garages and a select few independent garages.....Look for intellilinkmods on here or on facebook, they do the firmware upgrade at atleast half the price, vauxhall offers...But you need to go to their shop to have it done.

Yes, that and the ability to have android auto, just lower the music volume when giving spoken directions on the navi, instead of just muting, is also nice.
