I'm afraid its a dead end. FDM are more than willing to run a test, however they don't believe that this can be used for a claim, since they cant document the gap between before and after the update. Its like punching a pillow. Nothing happens though Im really trying to make the argument that Opel/Vauxhall cant be not knowing about the mechanical changes they apply through the software update.

Its so very disappointing! :-(
I'm not actually chocked about this.. So the only way now is through a tuner.
I really don't get they can get away with this crap.

I am from Denmark as well, i had a 110HP 2016 Astra K.

I got several letters from Opel, stating that there was an important update that i needed to have done, i knew this was the "diesel scandal" recall, that had left a lot of Volkswagen owners with cars that performed a lot poorer than before so i ignored it.

Have had nothing but Opel up until now (Kadett E, Vectra A, Zafira A, Zafira B, Corsa D, Astra K) but i sold the car and i am "never" going to own an Opel again. (Still have the Corsa, but am in the process of looking at a replacement, that is not Opel)

I simply lost faith in the car, it had disintegrating rubber boots over the front struts, 1 cm movement up down of the steering wheel in the locked position, chain rattle that was going to require replacement of the Chain (Was quoted "Atleast 20.000 DKK" from Opel, and Opel would cover zero of the cost) and then after then clutch/brake recall, the car started losing brake fluid, it did not drip onto the ground, and i was told that the brake fluid was actually pushed from the clutch slave cylinder into the gearbox.

Sold it to an Opel dealer, they sold it on, but i hope they fixed these issues before, or the new owner can claim the 2 year used car warranty for this car, when they find out you needed to add more brake fluid every couple of months, and even more often in summer, when the engine/gearbox got hotter.

Oh and then there were the Error i got every summer going on summer holiday, suddenly it would go into limp home mode, and be low on power...This was some boost valve that needed changing as well.

So many problems with the car, and most of them pretty expensive to fix, so i just gave up and made it someone else's problem. I hope the fact that i sold it to a vauxhall dealer would make them fix the car before reselling it, but nevertheless they sold the car to some poor sod, that will have to fight Opel when the times comes where the chain rattles itself to death the gearbox destroys itself because the brake fluid is not a good gearbox lubricant or the car is failing the inspection because of play in the steering wheel adjuster

My 2026 1.6 cdti auto is updated by dealer as well. Unfortunately, transmission stated to upshift very late now. When I use cruise control, it does not upshift to 6gh gear even in 110km/h. Engine screams and screams. I have to release the gas and then transmission upshifts to higher gear. It is ridiculous and not acceptable. Now it is running like to have a broken transmission. Opel/vauxhall needs to rollback or fix this issue.

I have the EXACT same problem with my 2017 1,6 CDTI automatic transmission (6G). As far as I have learnt the new gear setting is meant to:

1. Increase the times you exceed 2000 rpm, since this is the threshold for the clean cycle to start = you will experience more of these.
2. To hide the negative effects of the more active EGR-vent, that will steal torque and stability when open, and you are driving with "low" RPM.

All in all its a scandal that Opel/Vauxhall can manipulate the engine software with such huge side effects and get away with it. How can we prove that these changes are caused by the company???
I visited dealership to have them replace the battery. Without asking they updated software and now my car has the exact same problem. Went back and they told me to keep driving, maybe the gearbox will "learn" to switch at the right time. 5 days now and the problem has not resolved itself.

In readiness for when/if my car has to go to the dealers, please could somebody in the know tell me precisely what to instruct, in order for software not to be updated.
I’m just conscious that there may a number of aspects to the software and therefore which aspect is the one that must not be updated?
Thanks

Looks like I'm selling mine within the year. (Kid needs a bus due to his disabilities)
But so far I've managed to have the dealer swap out 1 injector - but to no help.
GDS2, when logging data, says that another injector is having a different opening time on idle - (1.23-1.25ms vs the others 1.30-1.31ms).
But as long as the EML doesn't turn on, they will not do anything else.

It went from really good and pokey engine until they released that f***ing NOx update. And they refuse to fix it.

Hello, today I saw that my Astra k 1.6 cdti 2016 needs to be recalled, when I called local dealership they told me that it has something to do with "emissions ". They didn't tell me more about, only thing I know is that it has something to do with updating software (ECU I guess). Did anyone else have same recall as I do? Will this affect engine performance or fuel fuel consumption? Does anyone know anything about this recall? I tried finding more about it on forums but I only found this thread https://www.astrakforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6033 . Thanks in advance.
Do not get it done, I have the same car and they've messed it up. The drive is less efficient now and gears change at higher revs after emissions software recall

I've read the recall latter I've just received (the second as I ignored the first one....). Nowhere does it say what the implications are if you ignore them and just keep driving. If it was a future potential MOT failure then surely they are obliged to say so??
I have a 160D bi-turbo and over my ownership have 59mpg (30k+ miles). I don't want them to "clean" the engine up and drop the performance (aka decrease the mpg).

I also have a BiTurbo, and had the update done in August 2021, and have not noticed any change in performance or MPG figures.

Been following this forum for years and just got around to signing up. Wanted firstly to say thank you to everyone for all the helpful information being provided here, must have saved “£££” as a result.

To TomB, I have received 4 of these letters since August 2021 (got one yesterday) and ignored them all (luckily the garage that services my car stopped being a Vauxhall dealer from late 2019, so no additional pressure from them).

I even rang Vauxhall Customer Care last year and asked them, can my car fail the MOT as a result of not having the update and even got them to consult their technical team? They said it could pass but I must get the software update done “to comply”.

I did a bit more of a deep dive on the internet and did find somewhere even though this could be deemed ‘a safety recall’, it wasn’t really and all the emphasis was on the manufacturers just to provide numbers to the DVSA on cars having the software updates.

My car (it is a cdti which I’ve had since new) has passed all its MOTs since Dec 2021 (and these letters), so I will continue to ignore these notices, they say anyway “Customer Satisfaction Program” 🤣🤣

Reading between the lines, I think the real driver here is they want you to have the software update following the emissions scandal to stop you making a more expensive potential claim against them through one of the associated law firms 🤔

Hope this helps.

Was about to start a new thread....then landed here!
I also received a recall letter 3d ago....
Wisdom seems to be that this is not a 'requirement'....?
Are there any advantages to having the work done?
Skimming this thread....I see a lot of negative comments.

Nothing that I have ever read or pushes me to risk the engine. I’m always of the philosophy of “if it ain’t broke, why fix it”?🤔

I also have the Biturbo, and the garage said they put a software update on the ecu. I immediately felt that something is off when I picked it up: there is less torque and power in the lower revs. It used to really pick up at 1500 and now barely something happens until 1900, plus what happens then is less than before. I am super frustrated by this because I want a fast car and don’t care about a few grams of emissions.

Yours shows the diesel ecm updates (both closed)
and that it's covered for
E191900750: Timing Chain Tensioner (expires 9/1/26)
E191904430: Astra K - Tail Lamp (expires 9/1/28) seems strange as that's 10 years not the usual 5 🤷‍♂️
E191900151 Astra-K Blower Motor Connector (expires 9/1/28)
Hey can you check if a car has had an update or other recalls? I got the car second hand and it regents every 80 or so miles and consumes more fuel
VIN is: W0VBF8EG4K8034240
Thank you so so much in advance

Sorry i've no access to that sort of info anymore

My car does a regen every 200 to 250 miles and it has always been this way since new. I would say if you’re having a regen every 80 miles, the car more than likely has had the update. Hope this info helps.

Hello, do you happen to know if the E191900750 recall is still active for MY2014-2019 Astra?
