Strange alarm behaviour

Hi,

My alarm has gone off twice within the past 3/4 days, however I don't think it's behaving normally.

First time, it just started going off (no noticeable reason), but the indicator lights weren't flashing, pressing lock / unlock on the key fob wasn't doing anything, turning the ignition on or off didn't stop it (I was even able to move my car off and back onto the drive with the alarm still going off). It only seemed to stop after I'd turned the ignition off, closed the drivers door and waited a few seconds.

The second time it was parked on the driveway, with another car at it's rear. The other car set off and then my alarm started going off. Again, same behaviour of the indicator lights not flashing, unlock / lock on the fob not working, starting the engine and turning it off, closing the drivers door then waiting a few seconds made it stop.

Any ideas what might be going wrong here? I have a feeling that taking it to the main dealer will land me with a nasty repair bill with it being electronics related as it's now out of warranty.

Thanks
Chris

Hi
If you set the alarm off yourself e.g. setting alarm whilst still in the car and moving about to trigger it, do the indicators flash then?
I wonder if it is the alarms back up battery activating the sounders and not the indicators. Possibly due to low car battery voltage with not using it under lockdown and all

Thanks for the reply.

I've just tried setting off the alarm myself (window down, car locked and waving arm inside), and the indicators did flash, but no alarm noise. Would this be expected with what you mentioned in your previous comment?

I have to say, I've only been going out around 1-2 times a week since lockdown started.

Thanks
Chris

Try resetting the alarm system by removing fuse number 33 for a few seconds iirc from the internal fuse board, then replace. Alarm system should initiate sounder again.

Thanks for the advice - I managed to get my hands on a car battery charger and the battery was very low. I'm going to give it a full charge and will keep an eye on the strange alarm behaviour.

Thanks
Chris
From my experiences you will have to remove fuse 33 to set the system right. Takes all of about 5 minutes, then try your alarm again and all should be ok. If you are removing battery to charge that may reset it.
