Hi Russjameslaw.aol.com,
I was the person who originally put the post on about the noise!
We're still no further forward with our car at all. Vauxhall have claimed all along the noise is "normal" !! And due to the fact we paid for our car outright we don't seem to have a leg to stand on. We spoke to an independent ombudsman who told us it was up to us to prove that the noise was NOT normal. Which would then cost us even more to do this.
We've resigned ourselves that the car it is what it is. We will in time change our car but will NEVER buy another Vauxhall again. They have treat us terribly, and it clearly isn't a normal noise when it turns other people's heads in car parks!!
Please keep me informed with how you get on with trading standards, I will watch this space.
Thank you 😊

The Vauxhall dealership where we bought our car from DIDNT think it was normal as originally they renewed the starter motor (thinking that's what the noise was)
It says it all, the noise ISNT normal, but Vauxhall will NOT do anything about it. They sent a field engineer from Edinburgh to see it.

Hi all,

I just found this thread during a google search while on a mission to get to the bottom of the same issue on my 1.6CDTI Mokka (65 plate)

A few months before my first service in late 2016 this same noise cropped up my car and it was mentioned to my dealership prior to the service and a 'no fault' came up. Admittedly after an oil change it was quiet for about a couple of weeks.

Fast forward to it's second service in October this year the noise/fault was bought to my dealerships attention again, for a second time it was 'no fault found'.

I was not happy with the findings so I contacted Vauxhall customer care who did some investigation and came back with the explanation from the technicians and that it was a characteristic of that engine. I've told them that I'm not settling for this and I'm still waiting for the findings in writing from Vauxhall. Surprise surprise I've not had it yet!

I get the feeling that I'll be pissing in the wind on this one but the way I see it is that this noise was not present on the car when I bought it new and that it's developed over time. My dealership have given me the 'suck it up buttercup' approach that's why I plan on taking this further.

Through some research I'm lead to believe that the first port of call is the finance provider which I'll be speaking to later today.

last reply to this was over 6 months back, has anyone else got any more news or managed to hold vauxhall to account?

Had mine in other day asking about the startup noise also on mine when it was getting clutch sorted

Dealer took me outside and started up a brand new insignia 1.6cdti. Exact same noise ! Apparently just how the engines were build taking time for oil to get on tensior

No more said after that.

Well, mine sometimes does the noise while driving, only when it's on its normal operation temperature (90º) the noise is not heard.
But while driving it's more audible when turning to the left... ai ai ai ai, what the hell is going on.
Appart from this noise, everything is well.

I have the same noise from my engine. It wasn't there from the beginning (bought the car new) but came after first service (15000 km) where they did an oil and filter change. Dealer says it's normal for that engine.

FOLLOW UP. I own a 1.6 liter 110 hp opel, I have the same startup problem that strange sound is heard and the only solving found so far is to stop the instant engine and give the second key and the sound disappears.

I was at a private service and when they heard this sound or scared, they told me they might break and cause serious damage. Chain distribution is located between the engine and the gearbox so it's not even handy to change it. And this does not solve the problem of "lubrication / oil pressure"

There is an official solution given by ope / vauxhall

Hello I have the same problem on my 1.3 CDTI. It sounds like it is going to blow up when I start it. I even scared one old lady at the supermarket when I started the damn thing.

Sorry but I do not understand your solution "stop the instant engine and give the second key". Vad menar du?

Do you know more about what this official solution that Opel does have?

Hello members, I am a MOKKA owner with the 1.6cdti engine and expreriencing the same engine sound problems! I have 45k in my odometer and just a month ago the problem began . Now everytime I try to turn on my engine I bet if this terrible sound will occur or not! Furthermore today after it happened , there was a small rattle with the engine below 2000 rpm until it got warm and then disappearred ! I will be going to the dealership first thing in the morning on Monday but after reading your thread I don't believe it will solve anything , and it is very sad as it will end up me selling my new car!!

Same with my astra. It's not happening on every cold start up. Occasionally. But it is more frequently than usual now.

Also noticed yesterday after turning on some rattle, ticking noise on idle under hood....
Strange.
