Hello,

I also have the same noise on startup, specially on a cold start.
I thought about the oil level that could be a bit low. Indeed it was, not by much, just a single mark on the "oil stick"(?). Went to the dealer and bought 1l of oil. Topped it up and... voilá, no more noise. Well, at least for the past 3 days...

Its the cam chain tensioner... It takes a few seconds to fill with oil... If left for a while especially after being a hot engine the oil drains out... When you start it up it takes a few seconds to fill and adjust... Nothing unusual here... Mine does it all the time... If after say 10 seconds the chain is still noisey then get it checked as the oil is either too thick or the chain has streached...
eg... listen to a 1.2 or 1.4 petrol corsa or astra... When the chain on them streaches they make a right noise...

Well, update... still ok.
No startup noise, even on a cold start.
I noticed also a slighly lower oil level, i could try that out.
What else i noticed is that if i push the engine a lot (rev up to 4000rpm for example) and do some quick miles, the cold start up noise isn't happening, until i drive it again very smooth for the next miles so it starts again.

That's exactly what it is , thought mine had stopped but did it again yesterday . The trouble with the tensioner doing this is that the chain will be loose while it pumps back up with oil pressure and this will cause a chain guide to snap then it will be disaster , they need to modify the tensioner with a stronger pre tension spring and all will be good , this is quite common on lots of other engines too , done two minis last week which now have modified tensioners .
Vauxhall are probably aware but wont admit until they have looked into it and start selling them .
Scares the life out of me when it happens as I know exactly what is happening in there , only 4k on mine too

Also topped up the oil, noise didn't change. Was on last line after 11.500km
Noise does change depending on the incline or decline of the car. When parked on a hill with the front pointing down the noise doesn't occur.
On level surface the noise occurs.

There's an update from Oct-17, which refers to startup noise from the engine (Ref. 16-R-085).
Not sure if it has anything to do with it..... going to call dealer and schedule a date......
where do you get such info?

Also went for the update (greece).
No change in the noise.
I spoke with the mechanic and they are aware of the noise, as all astra k diesels do them according to them.
Their official answer was that if Opel/Vauxhall doesn't release a technical fix they can't do anything about it.

I have a 2016 Zafira Tourer with the exact same problem. It reminds me of the old days when a car that was short of engine oil would 'knock' until the oil got around the engine then stop. It lasts up to ten seconds then stops. This happens completely at random. I've been told by a man at a vauxhall dealership that he saw a bulletin relating to this engine that stated a fault with software controlling oil pressure was the issue. I have a complaint going through with Sophie at black horse finance.
