Replacement Navi 900

Hi All,

So I've hit a dead end with Vauxhall and some main dealers regarding getting the AA update. According to them my Astra was manufactured too early to be able to receive the update. It's been in the garage a few times and they weren't able to do it. I've also been e-mailing Vauxhall who say it's not possible for my vehicle to have the update (after first saying it was)

So looks like the only thing remaining for me to try is to replace the head unit with one that already has AA installed. What specifically needs replacing for this to be the case? I've seen a number of people selling the screen only on ebay, or the read view cam internals but not the part that I suspect holds the OS.
Was thinking of checking some used car part places to see if they've ripped one out of a write off, but I suspect they'd have no clue if it had AA. Although I could ask the age of the car it came out of.

Would I need anything else to make the switch or should it be as simple as swapping my head unit for another? Mines the navi 900 (larger screen) with rear camera if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,
Adam

You only need to replace the HMI box, something like this :

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Opel-Insignia-A-Facelift-84028489-Steuergerat-Navigation-Navi-Navigationsmodul/143571479864

BUT.....

You would need to have it coded to the car by vauxhall, you can not just replace it, as it is coded to the VIN in your car and the other units.

They would need to do VCI coding of the HMI, and variant coding to only have the functions your car have, avilable in for example the settings menu.

I dont know if Vauxhall can and/or even will, code a unit you bought off of ebay as they would not know the status of the module (Theft protection, maybe the HMI you want to code, was stolen).

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just live without android auto until I buy new car in 3+ years then.
PITA how much of a hassle car manufacturers make things.

Only really wanted decent spotify integration and maps. Spotify works, but can't select playlists and the maps are from 2015 which are pretty useless around Bristol. I'll look in to getting a map update instead.

Well you could go another route and buy an android radio.

This will completely replace the HMI and screen.

These can be had with 9" screen and as android is on the radio itself, all you would need is some sort of ITTT on your phone to enable wifi hotspot whenever it sees the bluetooth of the radio and disable whenever that bluetooth of the radio vanishes.

The price for the whole android unit is probably gonna be less than what a new replacement HMI, including coding, would set you back so this might be the cheaper option.

PS. I dont really believe that your unit is not updateable, it would be strange if they made an early navi 900 unit that was not updateable.

I know the R4.0 can always be updated, and the units, here mostly in Corsa's were the R3.0 and those could not be updated. Would expect that your Navi 900, would be named something else, if they say it can not be upgraded.

Yes I agree that it almost certainly can be updated but the dealerships around Bristol have said that it can't. I would gladly take it somewhere else in the country to get it done, if I know they'll be able to do it.
The last thing I want is to book it in, pay however much and then be told they couldn't do it.

Does anyone have experience with dealerships in the South West or Wales that have done the AA update?

I had mine done as part of the agreement to take the car.

Car is a 65-plate Jan 2016 reg (so one of the first) and Pentagon Vauxhall Derby (they're based in a few places around the UK) did mine without any problems.

Not sure how long it took as I worked in Derby at the time and they had it in for the day.

if you have HMI 2.5 there should be no problems to update.

They used these two updates for my car.
Code
A________ Android System Software progamming
2810325 Radio Control Reprogramming with SPS
2810335 Radio Reprogramming with SPS

here you can show your dealer the manual how they need to update :D
