Wether a phone charges and runs AA depends on the phone.
My old Sammy S3 would last 2 and a bit hours on charge running "Here" scattynav, and then fail with "battery overheat". It would take ages to cool and re-start. So I tended to use it only for the last part of the journey.
My S7 runns AA without a problem - 6 hours connected the standard Astra usb all the way back from Devon and it was fine - not 100% charged - but fine (over 50% I think!!)
Thats the longest journey I do, so it suits my needs.
No...
My phone worked fine on the old "one USB, one AUX" module, but it would only charge at 500mA which was barely enough to keep the phone at the initial charge percentage. Some times it gained 1-2% on a 2 hour journey, some times it had lost more. Probably depending on whether i had done a lot of talking on the phone or not.
With the new module, i can charge the same phone at 1500mA which is more than adequate to actually charge the phone.
This is the exacy same experience most other persons in this thread that bought the dual USB module, so on a fairly modern phone the only problem with the original one was that the charge current was capped at 500mA which is not enough unless you dont do anything on your phone while it charges.
I usually do Android auto, stream music via my phone on AA, and make and receive calls and with that user pattern, the old one simply does not cut it charging wise.
