I don't think so. As the OP I tried several options before heading down this road. On one hand it might work, as it's before the modules hub. But then the modules hub might not work correctly.

Added bonus, this has fixed the compatibility issue my LG G6 mobile phone had with android auto in that it crashed all the time, its been rock solid today.
I also noticed that my R4.0 with 2015 software were a lot less prone to give the black screen when connecting than with the old one.

Now the radio is updated so now it works every time like it should, but the old software liked the new USB one better.

Maybe the added power, made the voltage more stable.

I agree it must have been the power requirements of the LG phone were too great for the original port.

My Samsung phone normally drains when it is connected if in use, Android auto etc, today battery went from 53% to 75% on my drive to work with waze and google play going so definitely a worth while upgrade.

Keep looking for the part. As I said in an earlier post, the same part fits the Grandland X too. There may be a new part number for the later models. My initial research also showed this to be the case; that the same part was available with multiple part numbers.

How much does the part cost over the (uk) counter?
You can not buy it over the counter, this is a part that is fitted to US vehicles as far as i understand.

Endgame then.
Ebay suggests that ÂŁ32 is the cheapest - other prices are ÂŁ37 inc postage.
Cant justify it for half a dozen uses a year when my (free) bodge works OK.
I paid around ÂŁ21 at this shop including shopping and i think it is worth every penny as i am now able to actually charge my phone and use AA at the same time.

https://www.ebay.de/str/globalvehiclepartsservice

Shop says he is on holiday for a month, so maybe when he gets back he will re-list the item.

Wether a phone charges and runs AA depends on the phone.
My old Sammy S3 would last 2 and a bit hours on charge running "Here" scattynav, and then fail with "battery overheat". It would take ages to cool and re-start. So I tended to use it only for the last part of the journey.
My S7 runns AA without a problem - 6 hours connected the standard Astra usb all the way back from Devon and it was fine - not 100% charged - but fine (over 50% I think!!)
Thats the longest journey I do, so it suits my needs.

No...

My phone worked fine on the old "one USB, one AUX" module, but it would only charge at 500mA which was barely enough to keep the phone at the initial charge percentage. Some times it gained 1-2% on a 2 hour journey, some times it had lost more. Probably depending on whether i had done a lot of talking on the phone or not.

With the new module, i can charge the same phone at 1500mA which is more than adequate to actually charge the phone.

This is the exacy same experience most other persons in this thread that bought the dual USB module, so on a fairly modern phone the only problem with the original one was that the charge current was capped at 500mA which is not enough unless you dont do anything on your phone while it charges.

I usually do Android auto, stream music via my phone on AA, and make and receive calls and with that user pattern, the old one simply does not cut it charging wise.

The s3 was used in an old Signum - max charge 500mA. Course Here lit up the display - that old s3 used more power to light the screen than the charger could supply. No fast charge !!
If our Ebay matey re-surfaces with apapters at ÂŁ21 I'll go for one :)

It arrived promptly about 3 weeks after order.
It fits and works. No GM branding tho.....
Fitting is easy but fiddling the connector into place is bit time consuming- I used an inspection mirror to help see. The connectors clip into place ... look carefully for the clips before forcing them off. They only need pressing gently to open.
Practice clipping them in before snaping the usb block into place so that you know how they feel and fit.

I have a 2016 1.4 turbo astra i have checked my usb ports today with ampere the arm rest one charges at 350-400ma . Interestingly the two rear ports charge at 1.4 amps . Why vauxhall could not do the same with the arm rest I don't know . After looking at the ports the rear ones have just power connections . I thought maybe someone with more know how would be able to see If extending the data carrying wires to the rear ports would work , it is not as straight forward as it sounds as the power connections on the rear ports are on different terminals the the arm rest so the data connection would need working out as to which terminals they connect to as well

It won't work. The module itself is a USB hub, and the car doesn't like a USB hub plugged into a USB hub. You would lose CarPlay and Android Play.

I looked at this when trying to get two ports working. I linked a post on the German equivalent site. It's with a read as the tested all of this.

That would not work.

Just bite the bullet and buy, either an original usb part from vauxhall, and get one that is for a newer MY car, so it will have the 1½A charging or buy one of these dual USB sockets mentioned in this thread.

I got one of the dual USB ones from the seller, and it works just fine.

The rear seat charging ports will be on their own charging circuit, and you can not simply splice the data wires to them, or the power from them, to the armrest port.

The charging current is made by the USB part in the armrest, it is just fed, 12V and then it has an onboard PSU that will take the 12V to 5V
