How to connect my HONOR 20 phone via USB

Hi everybody,

I've tried to search for an answer to this, but I haven't managed to come up with anything - apologies if it's been asked plenty of times before.

I've just bought a new HONOR 20 Lite, having previously had an iPhone 5s, which I'd been connecting to my Astra using Apple CarPlay.

I've connected it using a USB, but I've only managed to get it playing music from Spotify using Bluetooth (having pressed the Media button, which I didn't have to do with the iPhone), rather than through direct connection. So I don't get the album artwork showing on the car display.

Is there something I'm not doing? Something else I need to install on my phone or in the car? I've installed Android Auto onto my phone, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Can anybody help?

On my P30 I had to enable developer options and switch USB configuration from charge only to MTP while connected to the car. This allowed Auto Android to work. Switch back to USB charge only.

This should work as the Honor is basically a Huawei:

"Choose About phone, locate the Build number, then tap on it 7 times successively until you see a pop-up message saying 'You are now a developer' at the bottom of your phone screen".

Also, are you using the cable that came with the phone?

Android auto is a bit picky about what cable is used.

Not that it will only accept "quality" cables, i have had chinese "wish" cables that worked ok and more expensive cables fail.

I am still hoping someone will make a "cabled android -> wireless android"

Something like a chromecast that you can plug into the USB port and it will work as a bridge and enable wireless android auto on non-wireless android auto units.

Right now there are plenty of cars with android auto, but very few supports wireless android auto. From what i have heard, not even the new HMI units for the 2020 forward astra's have wireless android auto, which is quite a shame...Especially since those cars have wireless charging.

Would be awesome to be able to have the phone in the pocket, and have AA, connect automatically via wireless, and if you needed to charge the phone, just pop it into the hole in the centre console, that has wireless charging.

No more fiddeling with cables, and no more connectors in the phone and on the cable, going bad, because you accidentally bent the connector, while it was inserted into the phone.

Google would be the perfect to do this dongle as they know the most about the AA and AA wireless protocols.
