The problem with the blue coated bulbs is that you don't get any light on the road when it is raining or if the ground is wet. In my opinion these bulbs can make driving very dangerous.

I use the Osram nightbreaker Unlimited which is blue but has a band near the top of the bulb that is clear glass....this gives a more whiter look without the loss of light on the road especially in wet conditions.

@theodicy, sorry I just seen ur post. Tbf I haven't tried again to fit them properly. I've managed to get them fitted in such a way that they are secure and the light beam seems to be correct, but I would like them to be fitted properly and will have another go on the next dry day I get. We seem to be getting nothing but storms these days and it's not an urgent enough job to warrant the effort during a storm

If u give it a go though let me know if u find a knack to it. It's probably really easy and I've just managed to mess it up. Changing them on a cold drizzly day probably didn't help tho!

@jj-yorks, I can't say I've noticed any difference in light output in the rain and I've been using blue coated bulbs for years. I will keep my eye out for the bulbs you mentioned though and if I see them on a deal or something I'll give them a go.

Had these in my Astra 'J' and they were impressive!

No problems in wet driving conditions and the car passed its MoT. Although they state they're HID, obviously they're not. I assume they mean HID equivalent in terms of output.

PIAA also do a good range of bulbs:

Had some of the 'Xtreme White Plus" in my Impreza and they were pretty good too.

5000K - Totally white but apparently not strictly road legal
Never used the Philips bulbs when I had my 'J', got some others from Auto Bulbs Direct, which were rated at 5000K (don't know the lumens output, though). Cannot recall the manufacturer, unfortunately. If the Philips have the 'E' marking, then they're OK and legal. Blue-tinted bulbs aren't necessarily a 'no, no'.

Also worth looking at the PIAA website http://www.piaa.co.uk/bulbs/bulbs.asp - expensive, but excellent bulbs - used to have them on my Subaru Impreza and they didn't disappoint!

Just changed my full beam and dipped to Philips X-tremeVision +130's. Must say that was the easiest swap Ive ever done. Max time of 2 minutes per bulb. No skint Knuckles, no broken nails etc. Compared the the Insignia I had this was a doddle. The lights are excellent too.

Cheers
Russell

Just changed mine to Philips white vision h7 for dipped and Philips white vision for h1 for full.
Perhaps these photos will assist anyone looking for confirmation of how the should be seated.

In terms of colour and light on the road, I'm more than happy with the white vision series at 4300 kelvin, and 60% more light on the road.... In all honesty, probably 100% more light than the factory fitted candles.....
..... Wish I had intellilux tho

Oh yeah, watch out what version of white vision you do get if buy, there's some old stock lying around that says it only goes up to 3700k. I bought them them from amazon, complained to Amazon and they sent me correct new stock.

Wish I'd seen the pics of the springs before I changed mine - took a little longer than it should, it was freezing cold here, first try I didn't get the top of the bulb quite flat enough fir the springs to hold tight. All good now, just wondering if the dip beam light set lower than needed (as per my old Vectra) which could make the problem worse.. Tracking's being done Wednesday (pothole) then I may just try it and see.
