Crankshaft position sensor

Not a question but more of a heads up..

Over the past 3 month or so I have my 17 plate 1.6 CDTI SRI in to the dealership on 4 occasions with the engine Management displayed on the dash.

It all came about whist on a long distance journey when I noticed the engine began "hunting" / loss of power around 2500rpm. This lasted for maybe 10-15 secs before it carried on as normal but resulted in the engine Management light being displayed on the dash. The car carried on driving fine. I took it to the dealer and by this point the display had reset. They put it on the computer and found that No4 fuel injector was under performing....... They replaced the "faulty" injector and I went on my way.

Fast forward a week or so and again on a long distance journey the same issue occured!!! I returned to the dealer and they could not find any stored codes or identity any issues as the engine management light had reset by the time it was investigated.

Again, on a long distance journey the same thing happened!!! This time I noticed the start stop function was only working when the engine Management light was displayed and not when extinguished.

So...........

I returned to the dealer again and this time the light remained illuminated and they have discovered the the crankshaft position sensor was intermittently working. They ran the problem through Vauxhall and apprantly this is a known issue and a software update is required to overcome it. This has been carried out and hopefully has rectified this frustrating issue.

That's wierd, as a malfunctioning crank position sensor normally causes hard starting, or the engine to run rough or die as the ignition timing is generated from it. The ECU doesn't know the crank or piston locations without it. The start stop failing should have been the least of your issues! My old Astra H diesel had its old stock sensor go after 128,000 miles which was pretty impressive.
