Car Play crashes on launch most of the time

I am finding that Apple CarPlay tends to crash when first plugged in.

Symptoms are no projection (even though the icon impplies it is ready) and no SIRI.

If I unplug the cable and plug it in again then it launches correctly and works thereafter.

Anybody else expereincing this and found a fix?

It might be phone related. I'm on iPhone 6.

It always works second time, so probably something the phone doesn't launch fully first time through. Annoying though.
