Does the astra now use PSA engines?

Post by Kuro » Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:40 am

Been a couple of years since I had my Astra and now own a 308. Few people on the pug forums stating that the astra now shares engines with the 308. Is this correct?

The latest 3 cylinder engines are a GM design, they will be a stopgap until a new chassis is designed to take the PSA units.

Yeah you are right, the 1.6 diesel was really really good.

Granted, you had to have the turbo on with wingnuts to be able to change it fast, all the time, but other than that, it was a great engine.

Diesel.. maybe okay and that’s a solid maybe

Yeah the petrol engines are rubbish, I see more PSA cars in workshops today than the Holden Astra, bad move for Vauxhall being bought out by PSA tbh, I won’t be buying anything further Astra after the BK (: plenty of other companies are just as good if not better specs wise (:

Of course you own a PSA branded vehicle which is why you’ll disagree with me, Australian mechanics have a word for the 308, crapbox lol

Sure the BK has issues (which all seem to be relevant to the country they’re used in - pistons breaking / brake and clutch issues) but here in Australia PSA branded cars are not flying off the showroom floor because people buy Japanese cars which aren’t in a workshop every 2 weeks, it might be a good car for you but I can assure you in Australia they aren’t flying off showroom floors!!!

Rumour has it that the Opel engineers are re-working the PSA 1.6T to make it more like the GM unit and therefore not fail so regularly.
