I just hope you get a good outcome mike. How do you fee about your car now ? Not putting you off or anything but I know 3 owners who have had new 1.4t replacement engines and all 3 are unhappy with how the car still is. One had old gaskets put back on as engine is simply a basic engine and all your old parts need to go back on and had a gasket blow from somewhere . Another still had lspi and was querying the replacement engine and another just sold it and moved on to a different make.
All 3 agreed at under 20k miles on each car these days an engine shouldn't go.......agree too .

I’m not 100% decided but I think once this is sorted I’ll be getting rid and moving on to a different car. Using this is a big lesson. It’s a shame because I really like the car, or I did until last week

Out of interest have you had the car from new or did you buy it second hand from the likes of motorpoint or similar?

The recall should have been implemented 12 months ago at least iirc. The ecu update does reduce lspi events along with the correct oil.

I bought it 2nd hand in February last year. Found out about the recall when I booked it in with VX last week to get the juddering and ESC issue I was having fixed

The outcome of this is that I had an independent analysis done of my engine oil, against that of the Dexos 2 oil labelled on the service invoice and the Dexos 1gen2 oil they should’ve used. The analysis wasn’t 100% conclusive but weighted more towards my oil being the Dexos 2 and therefore wrong oil.

As a result the servicing garage agreed to repair the engine. They have put a reconditioned engine in and I should be picking the car up tomorrow.

So a pretty rubbish experience but at least one where I got a positive outcome and didn’t have to pay out myself

££££ wise Mike that's the perfect outcome for you , just all the inconvenience you,ve had.
"Obvious" question is will they be putting the correct oil in this time round and do you know where they are getting the engine from ? Hopefully reconditioned from an engine specialist or equivalent and not from a car they found in the scrappy !!

Yeah it’s a good outcome, could’ve been a lot worse. They shipped a reconditioned engine in from Holland (not sure whether that’s good or not) and they confirmed it has the correct oil in. Just waiting for confirmation on the warranty. They’ve asked me to take it back in a couple of weeks for them to have another look and make sure it’s performing as it should, but the first couple of days have been fine
