Screen washer leaking Into passenger footwell

Post by Simpson1989 » Sun Jan 13, 2019 3:40 pm

Advice needed. Pressed the back washer button to.find it's coming out under the passenger foot well. Must be a leak. The front window is fine?

Is this covered in the warranty? Or just take it to another garage. If it do t cost that much?

Hi
Make sure you have a 50/50% mix of screen wash in your washer fluid bottle. The first person who posted this problem on here said that vx wouldn't cover it otherwise, as it would have been caused by the freezing weather and vx recommend the use of 50/50 in those conditions. They tested his concentration of screen wash, which was ok. He got it repaired under warranty and the water ingress had fried his ecu.
Do not use the rear washer whilst it is leaking, as the internal water leaks on to the body control unit and evetually ruins it costing a fortune to repair. Have you noticed any electrical problems?

Here is the link I am referring to

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4437&p=39314&hilit ... ash#p39314

Since the above post I have always used 50/50 Screen wash/ water during the winter months. When I first do it I make sure I operate the rear washer for a while to make sure I have got it in the tube, all the way up to the rear washer jet. The rear washer water is retained in the tube (increased chance of freezing) by a non return valve, the front ones are not and do not route through the cabin.
Looking around the area at the side of the glove box there is an ecu ( body control module I think) directly below the A pillar. The water must get in there.

So glad I found this thread. Every time the wife uses the rear wash the traction control light comes on, and now it's showing 'service airbag' too. The car has two months warranty left, so I'll get it in pronto.

Got it booked in for Monday 18th, it's due a service and it's first MOT in December, so they're doing that too. All of the dash warning lights have gone out now, so we may just get away with having the leak repaired.
My problem is: No matter how much I impress on the receptionist that the rear screen wash must not be operated before the leak is fixed, I can see them deciding to do the MOT first.......testing the rear screen wash......back to square one. Do I explain it v e r y s l o w l y, threaten them or just trust them and hope?

Leave a note stuck on the stalk that operates the rear wash wipe prior to dropping it off. The rear washer never used to be part of the mot, hopefully that is still the case.

You need to get them to inspect the bcm for water damage if you can

This picture is from a different thread and their leak was down to a leaking windscreen, but it shows how close the bcm is to the area of the leak.
