So I managed to set the alarm off today. Seems to work! Just no notification from onstar.

Not sure now whether I should take it into vauxhall on Tuesday now.

Only sign of any fault is the alarm light flashing quickly which states a fault in the handbook.
Has it just started working on it's own or did you pull the fuse? Personnally I would try removing the fuse if you haven't already done so and hopefully it will reset the system and no need for a vx visit .
Just on it's own. I'll give that a go! :)

Now I'm getting a low battery warning

Car doesn't go in til next Tuesday. I'm not happy with the astra :(
Low car battery or low battery in the keyfob. ?
Car battery. Weird that both alerts I've had have came up while actually driving.

Not saying that you are wrong, but if the battery voltage becomes low, while driving, the alternator is not charging or can not keep up with the energy consumption in the car and the battery will be draining.

On the instrument cluster there is the good old "battery" telltale, maybe the function of this has changed, but my understanding of it's function, in older cars atleast, was that it would illuminate if the current draw was larger than what the generator was producing.

IF this is still the case, then i fail to understand how the battery can discharge to a point where the car would alert you to it being low on power, without the "battery" telltale being lit ?

Only other reasons i can think of is if the battery is bad and not accepting the charge, but then i would expect it to be unable to start the car also or if there is some bad earth connection but then again, i would expect it to not be able to start.

Could also be a fault in the monitoring circuit as well.

Did you measure the voltage on the battery, with a voltage-meter when you have this error come on ?

It doesn't make any sense eh!? The battery light on the dash didn't come on, just the written warning. Electrical gremlins!

It's going in for a look tomorrow morning so I will update when I've got it back.

Just to let you know the diagnostics came up with a fault and it needed the bcm module reset :)
