Creaking Door Seals

Post by FiestaRed » Sat Sep 15, 2018 10:58 pm

There has been mention of "creaking" door seals in a number of posts, I just wondered if anyone had any success in curing them?

I've been through the drop links and suspension top bearings and that all seems to have quietened down. Now, with the car being a little over nine months old, the door seals have started creaking badly. If you push on any of the doors you can replicate the noise. It's always worse when the cars body is twisting, uneven roads or turning into my drive. Probably noisier than most as I have the Sports Tourer tailgate as well.

I often clean them thoroughly with soapy water.

All forums seem to post on this issue (bmw, Audi , ford etc)

I’d spray wd40 on a cloth and wipe them down

Redman, Adie, thanks for the replies. I'll give the soapy water a go first as I'm not really into the smell of WD40 :)

I just use a wet to damp cloth but if I was to use a lubricant it would be silicon oil on a cloth as it doesn't attract dust and repels water.

Clean the seals well and then get a silicone stick and lube them with that.
It will also keep the doors (seals) from freezing shut if the temperatures go below 0ºC.
