1.4T 16V 150 v 1.6 CDTI 136

Post by bilboastra » Fri Sep 14, 2018 11:05 am

Can any one who has had or driven both of these comment on how they drive. Does the 1.6 cdti still feel fast when compared to the petrol.
Does the petrol feel more refined and smoother, and is the diesel that much more economical than the petrol?
Is maintenance like more of an issue expensive on the diesel.

I can see the online specs but was after some real world experience. :)

Diesels are more refined nowadays than they used to be.

I would base your decision on your typical average annual mileage. If you don't do regular middle-long journeys, this is more of a problem for diesels due to DPF regen cycles and engine warm up times. The lower MPG in the petrol may work out cheaper in the longer run if the diesel spends more time in the garage...

I would like to add that I never drove a diesel Astra K; but went from a 10 year old astra H (1.9cdti 150) diesel to a petrol K (1.6T 200), down from 50mpg to 40mpg.

1.4T, 1.6CDTI is riddled with timing chain and clutch problems.

I've read a lot of articles of the astra when looking for mine. Had one that compaired the 1.6 to the 1.4 150 hp. It said although the 1.4 (start stop) is quicker, the 1.6 felt quicker and with more punch. Didnt drive the 1.6 cdti 136 but really like my 1.4 150. And if you really floor it it feels more than fast enough.

Yes I had a rather large grin across my face when I test drove 1.4t and my 14 yr old wanted me to slow down, that was accelerating 0-60,but then we are used to driving around in my peugeot 107.
