The main thing to bear in mind is not to compromise on your safety, the advanced driving protocol advises to leave a greater space between you and the car in-front so as to allow a greater stopping distance for yourself which might avoid being rear ended by these idiots. The second option is to follow the advise of MrSM82.
As a matter of interest have any other Forum members taken the Advanced Driving test administered by IAM Roadsmart? A worthwhile addition to your skills, with the bonus of reduced insurance premiums too.

Do you think cars look closer than they actually are when viewed through the rear mirror , especially with the position of the rear window .
It's possible, I'll have to try to check when it is safe to do so. I've had a couple be so close I couldn't even see their numberplate in the mirror

When you can't see there front bumper, they're pretty close.

It's the Turbo badge.

When I de-badged nobody bothered, but now it's back on I get my fair share of attention.
Put a red one on.

Why I love my 1.6t no turbo badge on the back looks bog standard and goes like stink. Normally just put it in sport mode and get out of the way, many a bmw and Audi driver has tried to then keep up and fail miserably.

Forgot to say I de-badged my car fairly soon after I got it. It only says 'Astra' on the back. I think people think 'it's only an Astra' so assume I'll be going slow. Same as people who pull out on me on roundabouts and look surprised when I'm nearly in the side of them.

De-badging mine wouldn't make any difference, I'd have to saw one of the exhaust tail pipes off too.
Must admit though, I don't have a problem with tailgaters, maybe those of you who do should swap your badges for red ones.😉

My old 1.0t Astra didn't attract any attention , had "ecoflex" on back .
My present car fiesta ST does attract the odd nipper now and again but like you 1.6t owners I can put my foot down and leave them but who,s the idiot there ? Me as my mpg dips. Nothing against older cars but when you get some 20 year old car up your backside I often wonder........insurance yes /no ? If I slammed on the brakes and caused a crash it could be a legal nightmare .

I get quite a few. I just let them past and hope to see them upside down at the side of the road. :-)
