I understand a hardwire kit is needed but how do I get the wire to the fuse box? There’s hardly any space, do I need to take a panel off near the footwell? Where is the extra cable hidden? Please help thanks.

Yes remove the footwell panel and feed the wire through. The panel just unclips.

Use some firm wire/cord/string, attach the wire on the other and feed it through.

I always thought the logical place for a front and rear dashcam was near or at the rooflight

The rooflight has an electrical supply when the dashcam is needed and is also is out of the way from normal sightlines.

There is also the structure holding the rooflight or the rooflight itself for easy location.

Has anyone actually tried this position?

The power makes sense, but, all you would see when you looked in the rear view mirror would be the dash cam. Could be mistaken.

Plus you cant have anything in your line of sight e.g. where your wiper blades sweep for the driver that is your line of sight if you put it in your vision it would distract you so on passenger side is better

That’s slightly down to discretion on the part of the tester.

My dashcam is attached to the black plastic coving behind the centre mirror. I’m fairly tall, so I can’t see the camera behind the mirror.

The last time I got my car mot’d they removed the camera as they said it was obscuring my vision. I called the tester out he agreed that it was all down to personal testers opinion as they would have no idea how tall drivers were.
