Few questions re my new astra 1.6T Elite Nav 200

Post by Chris9181 » Wed Jun 12, 2019 5:28 pm

Hi, any help would be appreciated please. 2 weeks old after taking out a cracking deal with Nationwide vehicle leasing and I'm loving it, but can you help with the following please

1. Prob not an issue but when looking under the bonnet I was expecting to see sound proofing attached to the underside of bonnet but nothing. Assuming that's correct and inline with others?

2. Also noticed that at the rear of the car on the right hand side of boot, it doesn't have the 'turbo' badge?

3. Bit of a pain trying to remember to switch the 'start/stop' off manually every trip but just wondered what people thought of tuning it off versus leaving on? I'm really thinking about fuel efficiency as I was brought up being told it uses more fuel starting and stopping engine than it does bring stationery at lights for a short time?

Thanks in advance

Sound proofing got dropped on later models.
Don’t think the 1.6t has a turbo badge

1. Not much soundproofing on the Astra in general, there are some threads about people adding it.

2. The badge may have been specified for removal or removed on request. I removed my Turbo badge myself.

3. The stop / start on my car comes on only sporadically. Certain conditions have to be met for it to activate, such as temperature, distance travelled, average speed, etc.

We got ours on 1st May. Badge was dropped from all turbos earlier in year 18.5 model year. I got a red badge from eBay before car arrived, but in the end didn't put it on. The twin pipes are enough. Love stop start. Why on earth turn it off? You're not driving a Morris minor.

What is there to "love" about your engine turning off and on every few hundred yards in a town/city?! 🤔 Also, the Morris minor comment??

I've never used the stop start from the word go. The engine fizzles out now and again when I forget to switch it off - quite difficult to detect as he engine is so quiet on tickover.

I still get 44.6 mpg overall since the car was new. Fantastic bargain for £160 pcm!!

Thanks for the info. Yes, we weren't particularly looking to get another astra, but on seeing that deal it was a no brainer

got a new 1.6t vx line nav on 18 plate and the red turbo badge came with it automatically. never noticed if there's sound proofing under the bonnet but i'll have a look tomorrow.
Very fast and silky smooth quiet engine, to quiet if your a boy racer.
I think if i find sound proofing under the bonnet when I have a look tomorrow i might rip it out. lol

I saw a somewhat technical test on youtube, they tested just this scenario from the "is it worth it" perspective.

The engine they tested it on, the sweetspot was 7 seconds.

If the S/S was able to turn off the engine for longer than 7 seconds, you saved fuel, less and you used more.

The reason it is not possible to turn it off permanently is that the car has had it's mpg rating, with this feature on and if you permanently disabled it, the rating would no apply.

Personally i just leave it on, and if i come to a traffic light and i can see that it turned amber for the cross traffic, i just keep the clutch down because then it will not stop the engine.

If i come to a light that changes just before i get there i let it stop and put it into 1.st gear, and when i have to drive off, i only need to press the clutch and it restarts, so fast that i can drive off just like i would if the car was idling.
