It seems that the latest firmware released for the radio is still from 2017, which is a bit poor.
Still hoping that the guy that says that they are working in a newer version with OTA support, is right and they will release something in the not to distant future.
Would hate to pay for getting my radio upgraded, and then have them release an updated firmware a month later, that has the OTA feature.
From way before this radio was developed, phones were updateable over the air.
The first flatscreen TV i got, had no Wifi, but even then i could just go to the manufacturer's webside, download a file, copy it to a USB drive, insert this drive into the USB port on the TV and turn it on and it would update.
This radio even has all the wifi hardware and i know that atleast in some vehicles that use the same HMI box, there was a "Check firmware" option.
Basically Vauxhall deliberately made it so that the end user would have to pay them to upgrade the radio.
The update is a 2 step proces.
1. Put a USB drive with the proper firmware into the USB socket of the car and turn on the ignition and the radio will update itself.
2. Connect vauxhall diagnostic device to the car, and perform variant coding.
If they had not deliberatly made step 2 a Vauxhall only feature, it would atleast have been possible to do the firmware upgrade ourselves.
I got my R4.0 updated mid 2019 and at that time the latest was december 2017 firmware and have heard of no one that has had anything newer for the R4.0

Strange why i was not given this firmware in mid 2019. I know they were online with the vauxhall server because at first they only gave me a firmware slightly newer than the one i initially had.
Never the less, i dont expect there to be any significant changes, as far as i can see the one i have is 1.36.2.5 and this one is 1.36.2.6
Usually the last number in such a version number denotes a very very small change...Could be a spelling error in one language for example.
If you change the 1 it is a major change, the 36 is big changes or bugfixes, the 2 is small changes and the 5/6 are cosmetic changes usually
That said, i would have liked for them to release a changelog...But being vauxhall, they offcourse never do.
These dates look like build dates, after the code is built by the software guys, there is likely a long QA process that means it might take a long time to reach dealers (and also why the dates on the first '16 plate cars are 2015)
It is r.4 yes. My car is my 15 and I never got an update before. This is the first time I got an update and they charged me for it. I especially asked for it this time as I was having problems using Android Auto.
I have recently taken delivery of a new Astra K SRi 1.4T Auto, (Non NAV), and the software looks totally different to anything I have seen previously.
The system is fast and responsive, all appears to work as expected, (with the exception of being able to see pictures and play video even with usb stick formatted FAT32). See pics below... There are several pages that list various versions of software and appx 30 further pages with Terms and Conditions etc... Take a look and see what you think.... At present my only gripe is not being able to view images and videos even when stationary, (cannot even see folders except for audio related items).
I have tried tapping on screen to gain access to the developer mode mentioned in previous posts but no luck
Apols images are not aligned correctly and not in order. If you start viewing at the bottom of the list where the main menu screen is, they should read as per listed in the unit.

From MY 2020, they replaced the R4.0 and the navi 900 with new and "improved" versions. (Faster processor and so on)
Or to put it in another way....From MY 2020, the HMI units are the same as you get in Peugeot's ....
To be honest....Unless the new units will be "Over The Air" updateable and/or have Wireless Android Auto, i could not care less. Whenever i use the R4.0 for something it is either FM radio or Android Auto and those 2 things works fine on the R4.0
Do you have any "Wifi" menu and/or "Check for software update" menu's in the radio ? (Or alternatively any "Update via USB")
Knowing vauxhall, and especially after being taken over by the french, i would expect them to still want you to go to vauxhall and have the radio updated and pay the garage for the effort.
Im just quoting the guy that books the cars into the garage at the local vauxhall dealer.
He said that "Next year, they will change to the french radio's"
If he was incorrect i am unable to say offcourse.
The remark was in regards to a question from me, if there were likely to be any further updates to the R4.0 beyond the latest version that i was wanting to have installed to solve the 2015 firmware, black screen on AA, problem.
I don't know either, I haven't seen the new navi in the Astra live. Just by looking at the videos they seem identical to the insignia one, which I know for sure are GM.
Anyway the old ones probably won't get any updates anymore, but this was kinda the same on the previous model J.

Offcourse not, as soon as they work pretty well without any major bugs, they will discontinue any new development on the units.
I do think though, that car manufacturers will soon need to do longer upgrade cycles on infotainment systems in their cars.
I bet that in 5 years there will probably not be a "satnav" version of the radio's and they will glide more and more into the realm of smartphone connectivity.
I mean, who want to pay an extra £1000 for a satnav, and then have to pay £100 every year for map updates, when you can buy a, below £100 Garmin satnav with free lifetime updates, and the radio supports your phone that does Google maps navigation for free and with maps that gets updated all the time instead of only yearly.
Maps are even outdated when they are released for the built in satnav, the 2020 maps are compiles in 2019, usually upwards of a year before they are released.
I think Vauxhall knows this, as it seems they did not even bother offering a 2020 map for the Navi 900
Unrelated to Intellilink firmware as such, please see attached a few pics of the Radio/Amp unit and its connections that I have in my 2020 SRi Non Nav.
The connections are nothing like the ones in previous units as was confirmed by a Car Audio supplier who I have been discussing an upgrade with. The orig intention was to utilise the "Match/Helix" Plug and Play units from audiotec-fischer but nothing on their web site comes close to matching what I found, not even their adapters for Peugeot/Citroen...
So that confirms it. It will not be possible as such to upgrade the unit even if one wanted to.
Unless offcourse there will be an adaptor loom that can be fitted.
But then again, you would have to get Vauxhall to do the coding to the car, so unlikely that it will at all be possible.
