So many tailgaters...

Post by MrSM82 » Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:42 pm

Not sure if it is just my part of the UK but I encounter so many tailgaters, at least 3 - 4 per week, sometimes aggressive. The worst thing about these types is they often try to drive too fast in 30mph limits then disappear in your mirror when you reach a 60/70mph (not dual carriageway) and they continue at 40mph. They don't seem to think it is worth me having a braking gap.

Anyone else encounter this?

Yep I encounter that frequently & I believe I know why, because I stick to the speed limits!

LOL, I actually do an indicated 33mph but I believe in reality that's about 31mph but I know I'm not under the limit.

I actually pulled over last week and let one past as it was very light traffic due to the school holidays and the fact I didn't want them to rear end me. The idiot was then held up by a transit further up the road and made no faster progress than me. It was an older Astra too

I think I need a dashcam in general due to the awful driving of my fellow road users but would certainly get a 2CH one.

It's the Turbo badge.

When I de-badged nobody bothered, but now it's back on I get my fair share of attention.

istanbul is full of these assholes.

the solution is simple but before, you have to find out at which brake depression level the brakelights turn on. practice this one evening.

then when one of these tailgaters latch on you:

- accelerate. they will try to bridge the gap
- ever so lightly brake (just enough to turn on the brake lights) you can optionally turn on the rear fog light for extra effect.
- check your rearview mirror. see the terror on the tailgater's face.

Stick to the speed limit as I do and tailgaters abound. I have a couple of roads close to me that have 20 mph and when I'm driving on them they have actually flashed me to go faster. I just ignore it as you never know what arse holes are like - could have knives or acid and you can't be too careful so hence I suck it a;; up.

Do you think cars look closer than they actually are when viewed through the rear mirror , especially with the position of the rear window .

My car not having rear parking sensors, I have often parked the car using my rear view mirror. Thinking I am quite close to the front of the car behind, got out and I am a considerable distance away.

Tailgaters are everywhere they always have to be somewhere, just leave earlier I say. You always see them at the next red light after you've moved out of the way.
