Headlights and sidelights

Post by ASTRA ELITE » Fri Jun 02, 2017 8:37 pm

Hi, I have a new Astra and replaced my bulbs to brighter ones.

Can someone tell me both side and main lights should be on together or just main beam lights? Perhaps if someone can upload a picture of what or how normal lights should look like when on, I would appreciate it. Thanks

The DRL's are on permanently. The dipped beam will either be on permanently or on auto, depending how you've set it. Check the dial to the right of the ignition, where the headlight adjust is.

ImageOk thanks, I have set mine to auto. Main beams come on auto, this is what they look like, are they normal or should both side and main beams come one together?

I think there may be a bit of confusion here so to add my two penny worth:
Side lights / DRL come on with ignition and reduce intensity when headlights are on
Dipped headlights ( the big outside part of the cluster) are either auto or turned on using the switch on the dash to right of steering wheel
Main Beam (inside of the cluster shown off in picture in last post) will come on as well as the dipped beam if the left steering column stalk is pushed towards the dash when the headlights are already on.

In your pictur you have side/DLRs on and dipped beam on and main beam off

Hope that all makes sense

Also, these lights seem to be more down than up, do you need to get them realigned?

Mine were set really low when I got mine making it dangerous to drive at night had them realigned at the dealers and they were much better. I then fitted some Philips extreme vision bulbs to both the dipped and full beam and now they are very good.

I've had this same issue since i got my car last year. The dipped headlights are very poor and do not illuminate far enough forward even though set to '0', after reading these posts I have called the Vauxhall garage. They said I'm not the first to say this, bring the car in and they'll adjust them. Thanks guys!

The technician also said I could look at getting brighter bulbs which I am already looking at. What H7 bulbs do others have fitted, what are the best to get??
