Is it important to get a car stereo with DVD Player?

Post by Kailani » Fri Apr 03, 2020 10:23 am

I am planing to buy Xtrons PC70VXV-S for my VAUXHALL 2010. It has the DVD Player function. However, someone recommended me dont' buy car head unit with DVD since DVDs are outdated.

Most car stereos don't have CD/DVD any more.

From my point of view, I still really want to listen to music via CDs as I have a lot of CD collections. Yet, it won't cost any extra money. What do you think, my friends?

DVD Drive is outdated and mechanical so likely to break.

Would be much more relevant to get one that can play video files on a USB media if you want to watch movies in the car.

Just dont drive and watch movies :)

Most dvd units will have a USB option anyway.

If its the same price and has all the same functions then may as well go for one with a CD Drive. It's an extra thing for you to use when and if needed and won't cost you anything... So why not? Just cause you have it also doesn't mean you have to use it and can still use USB etc like suggested above.

You should consider switching to USB though. There's so many different free softwares out there that will let you download music in good quality off YouTube or other places. It's also more convenient to have a memory stick for £10 with 2000 songs than swapping through discs all the time.

I have had a very old XTRONS unit since April 2017, it can play CD and DVD, still working without a problem. Car stereos with a DVD screen will need to be linked to your car’s parking brake to ensure the screen is used legally. my XTRONS has a brake-in wire, i had to ground this wire or connect it to parking brake.
