Grandland X PHEV

Post by Finston Pickle » Tue Jun 25, 2019 7:47 pm

According to Autocar last month:

"Vauxhall has revealed its first full plug-in hybrid model, the Grandland X Hybrid4, which will feature a 296bhp petrol-electric powertrain.

The compact SUV will now be offered with a PSA Group-developed PHEV system, which features a 196bhp 1.6-litre Puretech petrol engine mated to two 108bhp electric motors powered by a 13.2kWh lithium-ion battery. The front motor is integrated into an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with the second motor on the rear axle giving all-wheel-drive on demand."

A couple of things (at least) come to mind:

Where do they get 296 bhp from - Presumably sport mode with196 bhp puretech + 108 bhp from rear axle? Should it be 304 bhp or is 296 bhp more politically correct?

Will the puretech petro engine be reliable in auto guise - I believe, like several PSA engines over the years, it has been dogged with reliability issues.

Also, at what price would it be a good buy, I wonder?

From Autoexpress:

Business Edition Nav Premium £35,590

SRi Nav £35,590

Elite Nav £45,450

It's difficult to see the value when the MG ZS electric starts at ~ £21.5k for the first 1,000 customers, including a £500 wall charger, has all the extras as required, does 0-60 on 8.5 secs, has a 160 mile range comes with a seven year warranty.

A bit of a premium for being a PHEV, to say the least.

Big question is "will it sell" at those prices ? Seems steep and as you say finston the MG undercuts it dramatically. And the MG looks like the best model the Chinese manufacturer has made for years. What car like it (for once) and it's something of a bargain at £21.5k for the 1st 1000 customers , after that it's £25k which although a lot of money still undercuts all its rivals.

Not to push it, but I noticed that the Tesla Model 3 base car at £37k+ has a 50kW CCS Charge (to 80%), the same as the MG GS electric - mind you the Tesla does 0-60 in 5.8 secs, not 8.5 like the MG!

Vx seem to be heavily promoting the Grandland X Hybrid - presumably the Grandland X PHEV - TV, Autocar etc.

As it is supposed to be out in December, has anyone seen a review of this model - or it's PSA siblings?

It could be something quite exciting or a white elephant - which could it be?

I've not seen a review of the 3008 PHEV either.
