Interim or Full service

Post by Mart7379 » Sun Jun 20, 2021 6:11 pm

Hi guys,
Quick 1 for you,
Car is due a service and MOT, ideally want to book them both at the same time, but unsure as to which is my best option. Full service is advised every 12 month or 12k miles, however in the last 12 month the car had only done under 6k miles. So do I still put it in for a full service or just book an interim on the basis it’s only done no more than 6k, I’m guessing there’s not too much difference between an interim and full service (obviously a few extra checks in a full service)

Service intervals are:
Interim Service – Every year (years 1,3,5 etc) or 30 000 km (20 000 mi) whichever is sooner
Main Service – Every 2 years (years 2,4,6 etc) or 60 000 km (40 000 mi) whichever is sooner
as for how much extra is done >
brake fluid change every 2 years,plugs/pollen/air filter are every 4 years, alt drive belt every 6 years/80k so a lot depends on how old the car is

Valer.
Is brake fluid a recommendation, not part of the service though?

The car is a 66 plate Astra and only done 41k. And had a full service last year by the dealer. It was done in July 2020, I bought the car in October.

So will book it in for an interim as it is the 5th going off what Valer states. And earlier advice from Boroboy, thanks guys.

Yes it's an interim if it's just had a main.

Ok, well I’ll get it booked in for the interim and mot, any 1 ever used Halfords Autocentre. They seem to be th cheapest locally. Don’t really trust the little back street set ups, having said that they are probably more genuine and honest than a massive corporation

I use Halfords. Found them to be very good. I looked at local garages and they were double the price for servicings and MOTs, was ridiculous how much they were charging.

Halfords is much cheaper with offers for the MOT. always found them to be really good and friendly. Never ripped me off or tried to say certain items are bad etc.

It's not shown as just a recommendation on the service schedule,
as always though it's best to check with whoever you're using to do the work exactly what's included in the service, especially if it's a major one

I would ask precisely what is the difference between interim, main and major. I found it was hardly any difference.

If it’s an extra £150 for air and pollen filter then I’ll do that myself, thank you very much.
