150 bhp 1.4t automatic opinions

Post by Tankie96 » Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:06 pm

Hi all,

currently driving a manual version of this but am getting bored of changing gears :D and was wondering if it would be worth moving to one of these.

Would appreciate opinions from people who own/have owned one.

I am aware of the 1.6 being the much better engine however they have unicorn status here :D :D

HI, i love mine but sometimes i wish it would change up faster when accelerating from a standing start as the engine hits high revs before changing up a gear,
also takes some time getting use to doing 70+ on a motorway go to overtake and the car changes down a gear then changes straight back up again.
The gear box is mostly smooth but can snatch a bit with hard acceleration.
I wish they did the 1.6T 200 in the uk with a automatic box as that would be the one to go for.

thanks for the reply. Funnily enough there's a 1.6 auto for sale about an hour from where I live... although it is the hatchback.

I have the 2017 petrol, 3 years 22,000 miles. I really really love the car. Its comfy and great for my needs. The service on the car is also easy.

However, I honestly hate the nav system, it acts up sometimes, specifically when connecting to bluetooth. I really don't expect that from a 3 year old car, but hey its not like idrive or MBX.

Make sure you service it with the correct oil, since its a turbo, at the correct interal. Also, use fuel additive it helps.

I absolutely love my car! I have the 17 plate 150bhp auto box and has just covered 11,000 miles. The overall drive is incredibly smooth and gear shifts are nice. I'd definitely go for an automatic as i myself never wanted to change gears again :).
As the comments above, i do wish they had the auto option on the 1.6t 200bhp and there isnt one available as far as i'm aware?

I have test-driven 150hp auto and I have 200hp auto myself.
Both are well-optimized to meet best of engine characteristics.
150hp changes on higher rpm. Final drive is different as well. As gearbox internals :)
max allowed torque 235Nm for 6T35 and 315Nm for 6T45.

If 1.6 is hard to find, get a 1.4.

Very happy with my 18 plate. I’ve driven auto Astra’s for a few years. I was very disappointed with the J 1.6, but the 1.4t K knocks the socks off of most others.

Default mapping is pretty good. Responds well.

If you are a manual driver switching to auto, it’ll take you a while to get used to using the kickdown and overtaking acceleration, but once you’re used to it you will love it.
