New button - find the end

Post by kodak » Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:21 pm

I have in my Astra K (2015)
Changed a row of buttons (UNIT 39028743) with a new row (UNIT 39028749)
so i now have a fourth button.

But i dont know wher the wire is ending, so i can use it.

I can se that the wire is in the connector, but wher the other end?
Is it ending in a unused connector someware or is it connected in the computer?

if it is ending in the computer can i then read it out from the CANBus or ??

From what i can google, you have changed your panel from one without the "Disable lane assist" to one that has it.

I take it that you want to use this button for something else, than "Disable lane assist" as your car probably dont have the camera.

I dont know where it goes, but if you want to repurpose the button and have confirmed that the wire is for that button, why not just cut the wire and solder a new wire to that, and route it to whereever you need. ?

The missing wire is certainly routed to some ECU inside the car, but the feature it is made for is not activated because of lacking hardware to support it.

But if the other end goes to a connector that is connected directly to some ECU, you will have to cut the wire there instead.

I dont think that the wire is just taped up somewhere so unless you cut it at some place or you make some complicated interface that can take a signal from the ECU, when the button is pressed, and convert that into whatever you want i dont think you can avoid cutting the wire

The wire from the connector goes to a large multiplug on the right hand side of the center tunnel.
If you remove the piece on the side of the tunnel and the foot compartment (just pull) you will see the other end of it.
Don't ask me about the pin arrangement, havent got a clue.

Is that connector a exstention wire or a electronic unit?

Thats just a connection to make it easier to remove the center tunnel. From there the wires go to the left of the car, just in front of the door/a pillar. You can see the 7 connectors from the footwell, from there they go into the BCM module.
