Just completed a 6hr drive in the 1.6t

Post by Pompeydave » Fri Dec 27, 2019 5:17 pm

Ok guys nothing new here but just completed a 6hr drive in the 1.6t Sri and have to say it's one of the best cars I've had for travelling in. Just one stop for the Mrs and what should of been a 3 1/2 hr drive back from Devon turned into a 6 hr road trip lol.
Obviously this was due to Christmas traffic , the Astra performed extremely well with loads of stop/start along the journey.
Mpg 40 , that's for the whole week with motorway , dual carriageway , very slow driving , traffic jams , stop start and the Devonshire countryside (hills , hills and more hills ! ).
One thing I have to mention is the comfort , I got out once on route for 2 mins but after 6 hrs of driving just got out at the end with no pains etc , very impressed.

Couple of idiots up my backside but left them after putting foot down but let a Audi rs3 just pass as its in a different league performance wise.

All in all a cracking drive , I've been in a many a car and the Astra is up there with the best of them.

Love my 1.6t too, I do 550 miles a week from Manchester to Gatwick and it's great on fuel considering the performance. Regularly see high 40s low 50s. Your right many a premium car has been surprised when trying to push me out of the way. [emoji16]. Going to lower it 30mm next year, EDS remap and upgrade the brakes. Just wish it had better traction from the off.

u697040 hi yes a cracking car and like yourself would like to tune up as well.
I think it could handle 225-230hp quite nicely but won't do too much more as I think the gearbox is approaching its max figure
Guys at true tune will get it to this figure and I'm also interested in the gpf delete. I've listened to the same guys explaining about this filter and it's basically like-sticking a sock down your exhaust and expecting same results out the back. They can wipe out the internals , adjust the ecu so no lights light up on dash. Should feel more eager when done.

Mines a 16 plate so it not got a GPF fitted. Did drive a 18 plate sri and it didn't feel as punchy as mine at the top end. The modified m32 is pretty robust now so I wouldn't worry to much. EDS know what they are doing. Great cars though.

Oh, wait!?

GPF is the cause for performance change?
The older 5dr ATM cars were claimer 7,2sec > 62mhp, newer ones 7,8 sec.

It would explain the performance drop adding anything into the exhaust will cause a restriction.

Early ones in the 2016 brochure listed at 6.6 secs. Later brochures 7.2 secs.

My figures are for ATM gearbox and 0-100km/h actually.

Anyhow, I understand the resistance in exhaust due to GPF but power output figures have remained the same.
I have the B16SHT engine (luckily I suppose). D16SHT is the "greener" replacement.

In addition to original post: agreed :)

Just wondered if you have done those suspension/brake/ECU changes and if so, how you feel about the drive now?

Pompeydave:
Did you get the remap and gpf delete? (Also - Did you mean the gpfs can "wipe ot the internals and adjust ...Ecu..no lights ...dash"? Or, the gpf delete can?)
