hi guys,
if you have the E brake - does the car also have hill start assist? .... like it temporarily holds the brakes on if you pull off .... even if you havent engaged the E brake? :/
thanks

Yes - auto hill start when the car detects you are on a slope, without touching the electronic handbrake.

If you're on a slight incline and think you engaged the ebrake (but it hasn't) then get out of the car you have just enough time to walk behind it and open the boot before it starts to roll back on you. eek.

I always have the ignition on when I pull the handbrake switch up to leave the car. I get a big message stating "Parking Brake Set" I remove key and get out of my car.
Only ever left my handbrake off with a manual type and I had a cable snap once. No cable on the astra k electronic handrake to snap. I wouldn't swap back to a manual handbrake out of choice.

I have to admit I'm talking about the J not the K specifically. I assumed it worked the same. Sounds like an improvement on the J which didn't display any message.
As for preferred brake types - Different strokes for different folks

The astra j has a parking brake control unit with a electric motor, torque controlled, cable operating system. I had the j also and the parking brake light illuminates when applied . I also found you have to have your foot on the brake pedal when applying the handbrake iirc. If your foot is still on the pedal you feel the pedal drop as it applies. I soon got in to a routine when leaving the car.

My 1.6t has hill start assist and a good old fashioned handbrake.
