I'm just about to get hold of a Tech Live Nav in a few weeks. I couldn't justify going several models and/or option packs up to have the rear USBs fitted, but it was something I was very keen on.
Can they be retrofitted to all models and if so, does anyone know if they're easy to install myself and if so which parts I would need?
A few people have fitted them on here including myself. It's pretty easy to do. It's just wired to the cigarette lighter through the armrest.
You need to buy the USB port and the plastic housing for it and some speaker wire. You need the part numbers for them.
There on here somewhere
You use little pins to make the connection to USB port. I'll have to take a picture of what number pins you use in the USB port. Think there's 2 rows of 5 pins in the USB port, but you only use 2 to get power to it
What you've done is to connect it to the power supplied to the console USB. While that is a simple way of doing it there is the potential for issues.
Vauxhall/Opel changed the dual USB to a single USB on MY17 (I believe) because not enough power is supplied to phones running Apple CarPlay/Android Auto through the headunit. Adding the dual usb to the rear and piggybacking it off the front USB could worsen this issue.
I have the parts ready to go to try this weekend, I think I can remove the cigarette lighter and feed the cable to it, therefore not needing to remove the whole console.
If I had my way I'd wire it factory style, but I just don't think its feasible.
I still haven't got round to doing this for mine but am still pretty keen.
Will be interested to hear how you get on with fitting the USBs.
