I have the same issue with mine... fuel economy is no where close to the stated Govt figures. Even though the BC states 57 average over the last 8000 miles, at the pump, I'm averaging more like 45-48mpg currently. Will definitely be mentioning this at service time. Also, sometimes, I get the engine warm up VERY quickly, and the fuel economy goes through the floor. Switch of and restart solves this. A bit worrying when it comes to the life of my DPF I'd have thought, but no engine management lights.

Winter diesel has anti-waxing agents added to it which reduces MPG a lot. Rumour has it that because we've had quite a cold winter the oil companies have been adding more to prevent problems from waxing.

The change over to summer diesel usually happens in early March, so I would wait until then before complaining to the dealers.

This does sound like the DPF regeneration start to me. Engine warning light isn't there for this. Next time it happens - leave it for 5-10min and see if the mpg increases.
Does the sound of the exhaust sound differently. Sporty-er maybe?

I just done a 310 mile trip, mainly motorway and dual carriage way. Speed was not above 80 mph and I've worked it out at 51.3 mpg. £33 to top up tank befor leaving and £33 to top up on arrival. Not sure if that's good or bad.

I'm a little disappointed with my mpg too. I have a 100 mile daily commute which is 80% motorway and I rarely go over 60 mph and drive to maximise economy. The best I've had for a round trip is 67 mpg and my average since I got the car is 60.2 (4000 miles). I get the winter diesel thing but the Merc C220 I owned for three years (PCP) averaged almost 70 mpg and that was a 2.2 litre. On the rare occasion I do boot the car the economy drops to low 40s.

Otherwise the car is great :)

I should add that's according to the trip computer which seems more than slightly optimistic...
