I've done 12000 miles in my Deep Sky Blue Astra, it's covered in paint chips, in all kinds of odd places as well as the bonnet and bumper. VERY disappointed with the paint

Same problem- brand new Astra in red. Now done 4000, the other week a metal pole fell in the garage and slid along the ridge on the boot- a 2 inch part of the paint literally peeled off, and I mean it actually creased and peeled like a cheap acrylic paint. My youngest opened a rear door onto the car next to us, barely touched it but the paint on the door edge actually came off and stuck to the car next to us. The cars awesome but this paint is shocking

I have also had issues with my astra in power red,it was chipped to hell all over the bonnet after 1k miles!,all i have is chips on the car it is really irritating as i have been very carefull it makes the car look older! i have had many used cars and i can honestly say i did not have this issue even when not being carefull. It is just not acceptable on a new car

Also been disappointed with the paint. Deep Sky Blue seems just as vulnerable as the others mentioned. First accessory purchased was the official Deep Sky Blue touch in brush and some colour coded polish with a chip stick! Spent more time touching in paint on this car then I ever did on either the H or the J that I owned previously.

I just wish VX/Opel could have saved 'up to 150kg' on the weight and used the other 50kg on better paint and more sound proofing as it is definitely noisier than my wife's 1.4 Turbo SRi Astra J. I get the impression that the Astra K will be a very nice car by the time the face lift comes round when they've ironed out all the problems.

Having covered around 3500 miles / 5600 km, I have, indeed, had a few issues with the paint. Mine was actually delivered with two chips on the front bumper!! :o :x The dealer arranged for those to be remedied at my house - free of charge, of course! Since then, I've had assorted stone chips appearing mainly on the bonnet. Also, I accidentally let go of the driver's door inside my garage recently; it barely touched the wall before I could grab it back and, yes, you've guessed it, a chip resulted! :x Not happy!

So far, I've used a little trick passed on to me by local 'Chips Away' bloke for touching in (I did originally post this in the 'How to' section). He told me to roll a piece of masking tape in to a point (so that it looks rather like a tooth pick) and dip that in the paint for touching up. It results in a much better job than when trying to use the brush, especially on very small areas.

I did have a few problems with my previous Deep Sky Astra 'J', but I don't think it was as bad as this one! I actually took out extra insurance to cover minor paint damage when I bought my present 'K' (I understand you're allowed up to 17 repairs within the warranty period), but I haven't had anything bad enough to justify a call so far, but I may invoke it soon before my car looks completely sh*t! The one area this insurance doesn't cover (funny old thing) is the bi-colour, diamond cut alloy wheels and they've already cost me a few quid!! :o :x

Here's me thinking it was just my car that was a chip magnet! I've done less than 3K and have a couple of really annoying stone chips on my bonnet. My K is leased and because the chips are quite deep I'm worried I'll get billed for them when the lease is up?

Maybe time to track down a touch up pen for my granite grey?

I've had a couple of chips right down to the plastic on my rear bumper of all places. No idea how they've gotten there and it's really annoying, never had anything like this on any other car. Time to get the touch up paint out again!

Has anyone had any luck with claiming for these things on warranty?

Hi

I'll let you know as I am planning on taking it up with the dealer next month. Car is a year old then and the front looks like someone has sprayed it with stones. That's not to mention the other marks down the sides and around the rear bumper.

Cheers
