Hi all little update for u.car been in a few days now main vauxhall people want oil pressure readings when it's rattling it's engine to death.and guess what it's been fine no noise.BUT they herd it when I took it there so. Yesterday they flushed and changed oil n filter ring me up to pick up car start it up and oh my God it was that noise and rattley 2 sales people and 3 mechanics came out because of the noise not good.so now the car is still there they've got the readings so guess wait to see what they say.

Is the rattle loudest at idle? A loud rattle/clatter from a modern diesel is usually a sign that the DMF has failed and is breaking up.

Anyway I hope you get it sorted soon, from what I've seen on here problems with the Astra diesels are rare so it looks like you've been very unlucky.

Gets louder when reved.its hard to describe the noise.to me it's like it's got no oil in top half of the engine.there sort it be glad to get it back miss the flipping thing.

Another update had a phone call today and it looks like the timing chain/tensioner has had it ordering one tomorrow so fingers crossed it's sorted

Would any damage or additional wear have resulted from the dodgy chain/tensioner?

These things happen I guess but I wouldn't be happy knowing the item at fault had been replaced but the wear on the engine remains.
