How I do it

Post by davidw » Thu Jun 15, 2017 10:35 pm

To start this section off, I'll break down how I clean my car. I try to do it once a week depending on schedules.

1) Spray the Wheels down with Meguiar's Hot Rims cleaner. I let it sit whilst I get the rest of the cleaning stuff out.

2) Prep - Fill up 2 buckets, one with a grit guard for rinsing my mitts, the other with a bit of Meguiar's NXT Shampoo.

3) Touchless Wash - Give the car a rinse with a pressure washer, clean off the wheel cleaner.

4) Soap the car up - Use a snow foam cannon filled with 300ml of ValetPRO Snow Foam and top it up with warm water to give the car a soapy makeover.

5) Touch Wash - Use a microfibre mitt to wash the car. Start at the roof, do the roof and A Pillars together. The use the fold in the car to split it into top and bottom. Start at the top to avoid swirl marks. Don't forget to do inside the fuel filler cap and the door sills.

6) Rinse it - Use the pressure washer to rinse the soap off.

7) Dry it off - Use a microfibre towel to dry the car off.

8) Back to the wheels - Wipe off any residual brake dust that the spray didn't quite get.

9) Back to black - Use Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel along with a Mequiar's Tyre Dressing Applicator to give the tyres a nice glossy shine again.

10) Keep it clear - Use RainX on the windscreen to clean it and help water bead off (It's really quite satisfying to watch).

List of products I use:

Meguiar's Hot Rims Cleaner: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Meguair's NXT Shampoo: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Snow Foam Cannon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Snow Foam Mixture: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Microfibre Mitt: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... UTF8&psc=1
Microfibre Towel: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Microfire Cloths (For wheels, glass, etc.): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Meguiar's Endurance Tyre Gel: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
Meguiar's Tyre Dressing Applicator: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1

Any other questions on what I do, feel free to ask.

*NOTE: The techniques I listed are the ones that I use and have found to be successful. I would recommend using only microfibre products to avoid swirl marks but that is personal opinion.*

I had my car detailed a few weeks after I got it and they put a ceramic coating on it to help with that, the water now just beads straight off.

I need to find a good but reasonably priced detailer near me. Live in a second floor flat so it's not practical to wash at home.

I used to have that problem, I used to take my own buckets and a mitt and all the cleaning chemicals to the petrol station and make use of their jet wash lol
