Disassembly and Re-assembly of Screen of Navi 900 (Intellink)

Post by AC2019 » Sun May 10, 2020 3:01 pm

I thought i'd produce a process of removal of the Navi 900 Screen within the Astra K (2015 - 2019). Time: 1Hour 30mins

From my experience only, these are the symptoms, that may lead to you requiring a new touchscreen:
- Screen initially began fault, developing a half screen with discoloration.
- The screen still works as a touchscreen, but screen is completely black (and you can still used the skip left/skip right buttons).
- complete shutdown of screen and buttons on unit.
- You may find its possible to use Steering wheel buttons to activate the Radio and Bluetooth.

To assist in a replacement, some people prefer a video, so I will share the video from YouTube that may help.
However, it doesn't highlight what areas to be aware of, as some are interfering clips and doesn't take through the process properly. Especially when you consider that you're dealing with a Plastic Trim. This is why I thought I'd show a relatively detailed process.

You will need these tools or similar:

You will need the replacement Touchscreen: Part ID: 39042448

The Process

- The first step is to remove Piano Black Trim. However, before doing this, you ought to be aware of the Passenger Vent. This is because there is a small clip attachment, which is circled in picture below: next line, to see positions of clips:

Passenger Vent clip
- Using the Trim removal tool, with precautionary force, work from outside clips > Inwards.
DO NOT work to immediately remove clips, work step by step, working to remove the clip in half measures. So to begin, Look at below photo, nearest the infotainment screen, where you will find 3 larger clips, work on them using your tool. Then when you think you are half clipped, work on the on the Vent being aware of the attachment above. Then begin working on clips in top and bottom positions. This should make it easier to fully remove Black trim and look like the below:

Piano Black Trim
- Next, is the small black trim piece on the right side of the Infotainment screen. Depending on height, you may need to lower the Steering wheel so its out the way.
Looking at the below picture you can see 2 Large clips that are a struggle to remove. and one small one, work on the the 2 large ones in half measures and then work on the smaller one closest to the speed dials, this should then come out easily after initial fight.

Smaller trim piece
- This stage is working to remove the silver trim. You will be able to see the clips to work on, however, there are more fragile clips, that surround the screen. You need to bare in mind, that the shape of the trim is a weakness for the material.
Work them in the Order suggested labelled: A- D:

Silver Trim
- Next is to remove these screws (7mm Hex Head) on either side of the screen:

Remove the screws
- The next part is best part of the process, and the Easiest as it all clips out. Use the a removal tool to lift and leaver behind where the 7mm Hex head was and the Unit, should then 'fall out'.

Clipping out the Head Unit
- You will see 2 connected wires going to the back of the Touchscreen. Remove both:

Back of the Touchscreen.
- Then Attach your replacement screen to these connectors and before fully installing, check that it works, turn on your unit:

Turning on your New touchscreen
Next part is the Assembly process

Part 2 of 2

ASSEMBLY PROCESS:

- Clip in your touchscreen, tilting forward and push into clip at the bottom of the Touchscreen. And screw in the 7mm Hex Head. And clip in the silver trim, working from the clips nearest the touchscreen and work outwards.

Touchscreen and Silver trim
- Next part is the Passenger vent. Pull it out of it location and attach to the back of the Black Piano trim. Pay attention to each of the clips and make sure each click into place.

Passenger Vent
- Check your vent scroller is working. if not, look to re-position where my finger is in and rotate:

Checking the Vent Scroller
- Once happy, with the vent. Guide the vent into position, and position the Black Trim to begin to start clicking in half measures ONLY around the vent, because you want to make sure its lined up properly. And when you think its all good, click in the Trim all the way with force!

- You should now have a completed the Assembly and you can now be happy of your replacement! I know I was!

Really great guide and also good to know that replacing the screen requires no coding.

I know that in previous astra's (The H for sure) you needed to have the screen programmed into the car otherwise it would not work properly.

It's the one thing i was worried about replacing when it goes wrong, but if it's plug and play that's good info.

Thanks for the walkthrough, very useful when replacing screen on 2017 Astra K SRi Nav with the Navi 900 screen.

Took apart the control panel when removed and replaced with a 8 inch screen from Aliexpress part LQ080Y5DZ10 as the original display started flickering on right hand side when turned on for 5-10min. It was £37 delivered vs. dealership 1k quotation to supply and fit a new control panel.
