How to fit a rear 12v aux power outlet(Updated)

Post by cornishtaz » Sun Apr 24, 2016 8:23 pm

Today I fitted a 12 aux power outlet into the boot which will come in handy for car shows when using my powered coolbox

I purchased one of these

12V power outlet

I started off by removing the boot carpet to gain access to the battery compartment

Then dismantle the power outlet so you've got just the mounting plate.

Then I mounted the plate on the far right corner(looking from the tailgate) using the 2 screws provided

Once the plate is secure using a sharp scalpel blade cut the the carpet out following the large circle.

Connect the power cable to the outlet and pass through the hole and secure using the plastic ring

Connect the fused +ve wire to the positive terminal using the the 10mm bolt on the battery terminal

Connect the -ve to the negative terminal also 10mm I cut a small slot so that it would fit the terminal bolt as the nut doesn't come off

The final product all fitted

Very nice job. Although careful not to drain the battery with it being a permanent + and not a + from an ignition harness.

Any joy finding a solution to the switched live mate, I spoke to VX today as I had my powerflex bar fitted and they quoted 2hrs labour to fit an Aux socket from the existing one by the handbrake under the rear seats to the boot?

Hopefully I'll be running a new cable in this weekend so will update with the result.

So today I re-routed the +ve feed from the battery and took it from the Aux socket in the center console.

I removed the center console by following steps 1-8 in this thread viewtopic.php?f=12&t=95

I removed the rear bench by lifting the rear edge then gave a good tug on the front edge to release the locating lugs.

I ran a cable down the drivers side and under the carpet on the leading edge of the rear bench, then along the center tunnel to come out under the the center console.
Next step was to solder a tail onto the red power cable going to the center aux socket I still utilised the original fuse holder, but just soldered my extension cable to reach. Power to the rear socket now cut out when the key is removed.

Hey,
Great job!!
I like your way in which you run a cable down the driver side and it came out under the centre console. I also followed the same steps .
I ran a cable down the drivers side and under the carpet on the leading edge of the rear bench.
Even I too utilised the original fuse holder, but just soldered my extension cable to reach. I think this is the best possible way to do it.
Regards
Jay

The pictures no longer work, any chance you could repost them, I'm also just a little confused with the last part regarding the extension wire.
Thanks

Thanks
Pictures sorted.

I modified the retrofit by re-routing tge +ve feed to the aux power outlet in the centre console. The extension wire was fitted to extend the the fuse holder to the above point.

Thanks very much, after exploring all other possibilities I think the only option is to attempt this, hopefully I can remove the centre section without breaking anything.
