Does the wire fit around the gear housing properly? I noticed there's a bigger gap

I'm not sure what you mean? If you mean the gap by the steering wheel that's my knee blocking it, I started on the left side of the steering wheel and follow it round and then went behind the steering wheel tucked it behind the centre console and we'll yeah I think you get the idea, I also managed to power it by hooking it up to the power flex bar. Still need to tidy it up by the screen

Yours must be a bit longer than mine, I could only get mine to fit around the to do the dash, as for the screen, you've got a different one to mine but I was thinking to buy another strip and start it on the right of the steering column too, that way I could cut both ends off before they touch the screen

I think mine is the 5 metre version I believe so I had more than plenty to play around with.

I wired mine to the cigaret lighter. That way it only turns on when it's dark, and it's dimmable with the rest of the interior lights.

How does that work then because the cigarette light gives off power day or night? Or do you mean you plug it in yourself when it's dark?

My guess is that at some point it was the plan that the cigaret lighter would have a light.
In any case it's connector has an extra wire that supports the light change and dimming (yelloe cable). I use it for both gear surround light, ambient light and glove box light.

Hi All

I don't know if this is right place or wrong place to post this, I had to go at installing ambient Gear surround lights in the Astra. I ordered the parts from eBay and they shipped within the UK. Essentially, it's a DRL retrofit kit that comes with white flexible LED tubes that I was able to then fit around the gear stick. Hooked all this up to the cigarette lighter using the yellow illumination cable attached to it - I think initially the cigarette lighter was supposed to be illuminated - this allows this light to come on and off with the actual lights of the car depending on if it's day or night. Also the intensity in my opinion is spot on - it's not too bright nor is it to dark. It's also adjustable in brightness using the dial that adjusts all the interior lighting.

Here's a link to the part I used: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F143491008058

Also, made all my connections with Wago connectors for easy removal if needed.

Hope this helps someone!
Matt
