Hello all,

have a problem with my passenger side rear light cluster on my Astra 1.4 t
  • the rear light bulb is very dim and sometimes flashes slightly
  • took bulb out and put in the driver's side, and it works fine!
  • swapped the light cluster over and the problem is not there at all
  • works perfect

( but obviously, can't leave it like it as they are different sides )

would anybody know what the problem would be

as there can't be anything wrong

if you understand:? :? :?

Re rear lights I've just had the same problem on my 2016 reg 1.0ltr took it to my local dealer who admitted he was aware of this happening to some Astra's and it is a bad earth connection even though it's a year out of warranty it was fixed gratis, I had earlier contacted Vauxhall customer service who replied with a message saying if it was a fault the would sort it out with the dealer as a goodwill gesture, all that it takes is the earth contact crimping up. If you do this show Vauxhall's message to your dealer even though it's not a recall fault.

No you won't find a copy online as far as i know,
it may be incompetent staff at the dealer or the fact they make more profit charging the customer rather than the factory paying for a warranty claim,
whatever, it's easy enough for them to find the bulletin on TIS.

Hi

So looks like I have the same issue and need to get it sorted - car is Jan 2016 so looks like I'm just in the 5 year bulletin window.

For anyone that's had it done, what did they do? Did they replace the bulb holder and connector? Were they a higher quality connection or just like-for-like? Did they swap both sides or just the one being complained about?

This is mine - the ground terminal has actually burned away! So hoping the fix is both sides and a more sturdy connection.

Thanks

So for anyone else who has this issue. Couldn't get it sorted for free - dealer said they always charged and that any "extended warranty" had to be sorted direct with Vauxhall. Couldn't get hold of them, and couldn't be bothered to chase, so got the parts myself.

Part number for the bulb holder (RIGHT HAND SIDE) is 39001578 and it's ÂŁ28.06+VAT
Part number for harness repair kit is 19371211 and it's ÂŁ35.10+VAT

So that's ÂŁ75.79 including VAT for the set.

The bulb holder appears to be identical to the old - part numbers visible are AL81.38.08.03 (on the plastic) and ASSM 81.38.20.01 (on the metal).

You could just replace the bulb holder (assuming your issue is melted terminal) and have done, however the modification I suspect is in the connector on the harness itself so wouldn't be a long term fix.

This is the kit you get: -

It's clear that the wiring is thicker gauge (though I'm not sure that's the issue): -

The part numbers on the connectors are different. The OLD one says: -

33471-0406
15181 03

The NEW one says: -

33471-0406
20207 03

My assumption is that the terminals are a tighter fit, but that's only a guess.

Crimping the new ones one, bit of Tac under the insulation tape to make sure the grommet is a snug, weather proof fit and job's a good-un: -

Not sure how much dealership would charge to do the fitting, but it's a straightforward job if you're comfortable with a crimper, heat gun etc.

the different numbers in the lower row are mearly a date code.
The 33471-0406 is the part number.
The connector system is rated at 20A so the real problem may lie with an undersized pin in the lamp housing.
The connectors, crimps etc are available separately at about a tenth of the vauxhall price.
Series is Molex MX-150, they can be found online.

I found the plug on eBay with the four wires attached and the bulb housing too, the housing on my lights has melted one of the pins away and I don't think I have the access to change that pin, I think I need to replace the whole bulb housing

Just had a read through this thread after discovering my rear offside light cluster has failed. luckily there is still a little bit of the pin remaining on the bulb carrier so used a little bit of solder wire to make the connection between the plug and the pin. Obviously only a temporary fix.

in terms of long term fix, I assume the wiring would need replacing to the thicker pictured and not just a new bulb carrier. I'm guessing just replacing the bulb carrier doesn't fix the issue and further down the line I'm back to square 1 having the replace again.

If the car is outside of the bulletin warranty conditions this thread offers a cheap and sturdy fix

Thanks Valer, I currently have a temp fix in place, with a little bit of solder wire. Would it hurt just leaving at as it is, even just until I have spoken to Vauxhall? I'm going to speak to Vauxhall tomorrow to see if I'm still within the bulletin warranty and have made a note of the bulletin ref should they deny any knowledge of it.

Is E191904430 the valid ref for the bulletin in relation to the fault within the cluster connection, I assume the 5 years runs from the date of 1st registration or 100k, mine was 1st registered Sept 2016, and done 40k so still within the 5 year time frame.
If anyone can confirm the ref number, so I can use it should the Vauxhall dealer deny any knowledge.
I would rather not have to pay for something to be fixed that Vauxhall have full knowledge of it being a fault
