Oil life

Post by gerdo40 » Mon Jan 20, 2020 6:28 pm

Hello all,
my son bought a 1.5 year old Astra 1.6 SRI 2 weeks ago from a main dealer (not Vauxhall) The oil life warning has come on saying there's only 6% left.

1. Does he have case to go back to the dealer to request an oil change FOC ? ( the last service stamp was November)

2. if it's sitting at 6%, how urgent is it to have the oil changed, I presume there's no great rush

Thanks.

Assuming a reputable garage carried out the service, most likely it's not been reset, as above.

From what I understand the oil life remaining is essentially a timer based on time / miles not a true reflection of the actual engine oil quality.

Yeah, it's just a calculator that gives an estimate based on your starts/stops, mileage and drivetime, temp etc factors and gives an estimate when you should change it.

If it's been serviced on November it should still have a lot of oil life left, so probably it's just not reset as previously said.
