crackle noise

Post by benson85 » Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:51 pm

Hi everyone

I've had my astra 1.4 turbo sri for a few days now.
I love the car and everything seems fine except one (hopefully) small thing.

When in 5th/6th at a decent speed twice now I've noticed a slight noise coming from around the passenger door area. It sounds almost like the faint crackle from a de tuned radio?

Anyone have anything similar going on or could help me work out what it is. It doesn't sound particularly bad but definitely something that shouldn't be there.

any help appreciated thanks

Are the doors aligned properly?

Doesn't matter, they still can be misaligned if the worker wasnt paying attention.

When in 5th and 6th gear are you accelerating hard or going up hill, labouring the engine?

no not at all it's more when it's cruising not labouring at all. it really doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine. as I say it almost seems like a speaker crackle but don't think it's that as turned infotainment system off. I need a better chance to analyse it as it's only happened briefly twice! if it happens again I am going to listen very closely.. I'm sure it will

Get a 2nd set of ears in the back to track it down. You have no chance when driving.

Just a shot in the dark, but my company Astra J used to have a strange crackly noise sometimes. It sounded like dry leaves in the fan vents. I eventually tracked it down to the tracker that was fitted under the dash by the door. It occasionaly sent data out and there must have been tiny relays in there "crackling". If your is an ex-fleet or hire car, they might have left the tracker in. just an idea. Maybe you have a "black box" for insurance purposes.
