Seatbelt mechanism noise

Post by icraigt » Mon Apr 30, 2018 5:46 pm

I've not come across this in the forum, so apologies if it's a known issue.

From New (4 ish wks ago) I've had what is best described as a tizz like noise from the driver's side b-pillar.

Has to be the seatbelt mechanism. Sounds very much like a spring is loose or something connected to a spring.

Went in for warranty investigation and rectification last week but it's no different to when it went in (first bump driving out of the dealership set it off!).

It's most prevalent over "sharper" bumps where the vibration profile would be a higher frequency.

Anyway, it's booked back in for the 11th May so I'll report back then to share the info.

No, I don't recall anything similar being posted on here and it's certainly not something I've experienced.

This is a strange one. Has the dealer ship actually listened to the sound? It's clearly not right and they need to sort it - it could even be a safety issue!!

Yeah I had them drive it but I wasn't convinced the technician really managed to focus in on it. He concluded that he could hear something but they didn't find anything amiss, just readjusted some trim (?).

I think it will be something internal to the mechanism ......just wish I could help them in the workshop :)

To be fair, the noise does range from really obvious to quite subtle (though I've not figured out why or under what specific conditions).

A tug on the belt to get it to lock also induces the same noise.

Although I know very little about seatbelt mechanisms, intuitively, it sounds as though it's coming from the inertia reel system, which brings me back to the safety concern!

Presumably, you gave it a similar tug with the engineer / technician present? I imagine you did. Sounds like they just can't be bothered to sort it out - ie, all too difficult!

I'd hold their @rses to the fire over this one and make a nuisance of yourself. I just did over oil issues and updating the Infotainment system - got there in the end!

I'm totally aligned to your train of thought, both regarding the potential root cause and making sure they sort it out 🤣

Picked the car up this afternoon and......... Rattled on first bump!

Turned around and went back. End result is it's booked in with the service manager next Friday!

Third time lucky

Interestingly, the Meriva(!) they loaned me had the exact same issue. I suggested they practice on that car before next Friday 🤣

Think I'll take a look myself!

Thanks :)

No updates yet, I've been flat out busy so not had chance to take a look myself.

I have an appointment with the service manager on Friday so will keep you posted.
