Windscreen Seal? - Pillar Trim Moulding? What is this called?

Astra K CDTi SRi Mk 7 K Sports Tourer - (2016)

Hello Everyone, Can anyone tell me what this part is called, can it be replaced or can it be repaired. There's a pic that shows the bottom part that fits in the side between the screen and the body, and the other pic of the upper part which has perished and flaps about in the wind. Any help greatly appreciated.

It's name is PITA lol, they nearly all seem to suffer with the issue,tourer numbers are

What is the actual purpose of this part?

Is it meant to be a seal, or is it supposed to fill in the gap to make it look better?

As I mentioned in another thread a while back, I just carefully glued mine back in to place with Evo-Stik and haven't noticed any problems such as water getting in.
