Hello all,

have a problem with my passenger side rear light cluster on my Astra 1.4 t
  • the rear light bulb is very dim and sometimes flashes slightly
  • took bulb out and put in the driver's side, and it works fine!
  • swapped the light cluster over and the problem is not there at all
  • works perfect

( but obviously, can't leave it like it as they are different sides )

would anybody know what the problem would be

as there can't be anything wrong

if you understand:? :? :?

Got my 67 plate booked in under this special coverage next Weds. Have been having intermittent issues with 'Check Brake Lights' over the past couple of weeks. Have to be fair and say that Vauxhall were really easy to deal with, they found the special coverage immediately upon me giving my reg number, so fingers crossed they will find and resolve the issue next Weds!

Just read an article from a vauxhall technician regarding this fault. He remarked he had replaced a lot of these and found that if he twisted the pins ever so slightly (mainly ground) after replacement, he never had any recurring complaints. The slight twist maintains a good contact with its female counterpart.

Just discovered that our car has this fault tonight after changing the brake bulb.

Bought the car 2017 so within the criteria however the location where we bought the car is no longer a Vauxhall garage. I assume I can take the car to any Vauxhall garage listed on the Vauxhall website's 'Find a Retailer' section and they'll carry out the work under the special coverage?

Thanks for your reply to confirm, didn't want to phone up and get treated like a mug.

So you're just going to take it lying down ?
If you read the thread from the start as long as the car meets the parameters the bulletin number is there to be quoted to the dealer,if that doesn't work then i'd complain to Vx customer service.

I just wanted to jump on this thread to say thank you! I have a 16 plate astra k which was 5 in June, I noticed my offside tail light was dim and flickering in November, having found this thread with the bulletin number I was able to get Vauxhall to cover the £350 repair bill by Arnold Clark despite being outside the parameters. Without this thread that would never have happened, so cheers! 😊

There is only 3 wires connected to the rear tail lights and indicator I have 2017 astra tech line the middle wire seems to melt the plug and damages the terminal on the bulb houlder lookers vauxhall told me it wasn't under warranty but vauxhall customer services gave me £200 to get it fixed lookers said it would be a bit more for them to do the work so I got the parts with the money and did the work myself as I used to work in the car industry for 30 years

I know I am resurrecting an old thread, but how did you get Vauxhall customer services to give a decision on whether this would be covered under the bulletin or not for a car beyond 5 years old? Mine is 5 years and 7 months. Customer services say I have to take it to the garage and pay the £126 diagnostic fee. Then I can call them for a decision. Clearly I don't want to pay upfront £126 if they won't fix it - I am capable of wiring a workaround myself for a lot less if I need to.

Hi all this got an 18 plate Astra in Feb from a dealer in London (not Vauxhall) I’m on my 6th bulb it was changed Friday and its out again. Always seems to be left break light. Also get the indicator fault now and again and reg plate fault daily. Dealer I got it from dont cover electrics. Any advice on what to do please? It’s on 70 k miles!

Useful to know! I'm not sure about the indicator failure as I had a tail & brake bulb go and after 2 short-lived replacements from a local repair shop, I've had a replacement tail & brake light fitted by F1 Autocentre in Coalville and turned out the indicator bulb was fine, even though the warning displayed and the left indicator repeated very fast.

Brake bulb was actually fitted for free as I was dropping my wife over to pick up her car when the warning came up on the display and she'd spent a good few hundred quid on service, MOT and front brake discs and pads!
So far, the replacement tail & brake light has so far outlasted the two (presumably cheaper) other ones by about double the length of time and still working fine so far.

What I still can't understand is why some Astras suffer from it and some don't. Was it certain batches or years that had a fault?

5 years to 10 years which is why they did it all for free.
Just read this thread and spoken to my local Vauxhall garage, they absolutely have no idea about this issue even though I spoke to Vauxhall customer service before calling them. The garage said they will charge £120 for the diagnostics fee and charge further if the car is outside warranty. To be honest I don't have time for this, can you please advise if I buy this from Amazon, will that be sufficient? Some posts mention about bulb holder, is that also necesarry? Many thanks.

As @Valer suggested on your other post, there is no guarantee that just the plug will be at fault and i agree with him that it doesn't look that bad tbh. Most of the ones we've seen on here that have burnt out look obviously damaged. You really need to get then light unit out and inspect the socket on it yourself to confirm.
