Hello all,

have a problem with my passenger side rear light cluster on my Astra 1.4 t
  • the rear light bulb is very dim and sometimes flashes slightly
  • took bulb out and put in the driver's side, and it works fine!
  • swapped the light cluster over and the problem is not there at all
  • works perfect

( but obviously, can't leave it like it as they are different sides )

would anybody know what the problem would be

as there can't be anything wrong

if you understand:? :? :?

Ok thanks Valer, I have been into Vauxhall this morning and asked them to sort it. They have booked the car in for 6th July and say there's a charge for diagnostic of £60 which I won't be charged should it be the fault they know about. But going off this thread it is. So I will be taking it and I will be making sure I keep hold of the ref number.

As I said the car was registered 9/9/2016 so still within the 5 year time frame and definitely under the 100,000 miles.

Ok sorry I misread, car has only done 42k so well under the 62k

Since had a response from the service manager at Vauxhall, who has confirmed 'if the fault is verified, the repair will be done under the 'special coverage' repair item'.

I'm guessing if I hadn't hit them with the bulletin ref in this thread I would of more than likely been fobbed off and expected to pay for the repairs myself

Yes that is special coverage bulletin number,
it's for 5 years from first registration or 100,000 km/62000miles regardless of how many owners the car may have had
Do you think this issue was rectified from factory on later models?
Cheers.
Asked that question earlier in the thread Boroboy, my first thought, as they usual put a date and a vin number when a production improvement was implemented. .

👍 Managed to miss that.

The bulletin covers MY 2016-2020 so it would suggest they don't have a great deal of confidence of the issue being permanently sorted.
Thanks for letting us know.
Something else to keep our eyes on then.

So the car is going in tomorrow to have the rear tail light sorted. Little concerned that they will attempt to charge me for the repair and a little reluctant to sign the on line check in I have been sent by email. It states ' I authorise work to be completed on my vehicle and pay any charges that fall due'

Can I refuse to sign until work has been done or will they refuse to do the repair if I refuse to sign?

From my experiences when having any warranty work looked at I have always had to sign to pay myself, should it not be covered by warranty. Remind them it is a tsb for the rear light cluster and it is an extended warranty period/mileage for this.

I have taken it in this morning, after removing the temp fix I had put in so they don't come back to me and try to blame me for the fault.

The vehicle is within the bulletin parameters. Vehicle wasn't registered until Sept 2016 for still within a month inside the 5 year time scale. And the vehicle has only done 44k

So it goes without saying this issue should not be present on such a young car.

The dealer said it will be ready for collection this afternoon. They have also supplied me with online Tracking so I can keep an eye on its progress within the workshop.

No just had to listen to the Mrs kick off cos I happily paid for a bulb. As a pose to the full cost of repair 🤬🙈. They did a health check on the vehicle. And came back with a clean bill of health, they also included the cost of repair, which would of been £120 had the vehicle been out of special coverage / bulletin parameters

Would recommend anyone with the Astra K to check their rear o/s and n/s connections for any sign of burning out pins. If within the Parameters of the bulletin /special coverage will be repaired free of charge. Should really be a recall as I would assume it is a common fault

Wholeheartedly agree with you on the recall point Mart......but Vaux will do their damndest to get out of any problems that should really be a recall.........ask the 1600 diesel owners about their camchains   I actually haven't thought about mine seeing as they're LED units but only the side/brake/fog lights are LED (or at least used to be until I swapped all of them for LED's) so I ought to have a look really just in case there are any signs of burning. Mine's 5 years old in November so should be covered.

Im having the same issue. Left one completely gone and righy hand side working for time being. They quoted my bulletin number above E191904431 saying it related to a corroded exhaust. My main dealer wont deal with it so ive gone elsewhere to another dealer. Do not let them fob you off, its awfully designed, water ingress is causing it i think. Im going to be emailing dealer principle tomorrow CCing bbc watchdog into the email and several journos aswell!

When I had the issue pop up I initially just called into my local Vauxhall dealership and was met with 'you'll have to pay £60 diagnostic'. So I did still book it in. However I did manage to get hold of the service manager who I told I would not be paying anything for a diagnostic as it was a known fault by Vauxhall, the manager agreed and said it was within special coverage and would likely be repaired at no charge to me. I was a little worried yesterday that I would return to a bill but when they rang and told me both sides needed doing, they also confirmed it was being done under the special coverage warranty.
