I believe you should work the turbo occasionally. I have read that revving the turbo high helps to reduce the intake valves clogging up with carbon.

Re: Engine splutter at 3000rpm

It still cant do this. You can accelerate from 1500rpm ig you want, its not food idea but the car shouldnt do LSPI and stutter I think LSPI isn't happening unless you are hearing pinking, the ecu is perhaps programmed to pre-empt the condition being possible under these driving conditions and prote...

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

My symptoms, like many others occur between roughly 2300 revs and 4000 revs...what is the explanation for the metallic rattling and the occasional noise that sounds like something has just broken off in my engine block? Mine also does it in any gear while accelerating. If you poodle about you dont ...

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

This is the chart I found and the LSPI area is between 1000rpm and 3000rpm. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=chart+showing+lspi&client=safari&hl=en-gb&biw=1024&bih=671&prmd=inmv&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&fir=VzwOINaTnlAQ3M%253A%252CEoIzN8DskitycM%252C_%253BTwtArCmQ_0bYcM%253A%252CEoIzN8DskitycM%25...

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

I must admit that if I have had any spluttering I may have been in too higher gear when accelerating hard and I should have dropped a gear or two . I believe the ecu on turbo direct fuel injection engines, if it at all suspects a LSPI condition it adds a lot of fuel to cool and quench the cylinders ...

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

The engine on the k does have steel cylinder liners cast in to the aluminium block and supposedly strong alloy Pistons.

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

Did the 1.4t on the J full apart or is it just the 1.4t in the K. The 1.4t on the J wasn't a sidi engine, the technology is different on the j 1.4t The 1.4T in the astra J was a SIDI for the last 12 months of production Wasn't aware of that. So it was trialed on the j before the k went in to produc...

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

I wonder if gm have sold a lot more 1.4T than 1.0T and maybe that is why we are hearing about more 1.4.T engine failures. The 1.4T runs hotter than the 1.0T and perhaps that is why it is more prone to it. The 1.4 T has 2 coolant thermostats, one that shuts off water flow over the cylinder block prom...

Re: Broken down- car spluttering

It is the same engine as the 1.5 is the point being made, so the 1.4 may also be getting, hopefully just the odd one, melted Piston. Quite concerning really.
