Re: Viable turnaround plan

I'm not sure we'll see PSA engines in current generation Astra or Insignia models, if only because they're under contract to supply Astras to Holden and Insignias to Holden and I think Buick. Producing 2 different but otherwise identical cars in the same plant would I guess add a whole new level of ...

Swirl Marks

In over 20 years of owning various cars, I've never had an issue with swirl marks. Wouldn't consider myself a detailer, but always have taken pride in what I drive and how it looks. So I could have wept when I looked at the Astra on Sunday and saw swirl marks in the autumn sun literally all over the...

Re: Astra Options, Your thoughts are they worth the money?

Of the standard equipment on the SRi, it all works well and generally adds to my driving enjoyment with the exception of lane keep assist, which I think can sometimes verge on being dangerous. I'm seriously considering switching it off. Interested to know which part of Keep Lane Assist you find dan...

Re: Fuel economy question

As someone who for many years worked in the downstream oil equipment industry, Diesel is almost certainly doomed - at least so far as the private motorist is concerned. In fact, there's a pretty strong argument that if it wasn't for Gordon Brown's scientific ignorance, Diesel should have been doomed...

Re: What irritates you?

Interesting to see there's a common theme developing around the Bridgestone tyres... which are probably the worst set of tyres I've ever had the misfortune to experience. I've driven Astra Ks shod with Continentals and Avons (after market). It's incredible how the Avons and Contis transform the hand...

Reference OnStar, I bought mine at 6 months old. It was an ex General Motors UK car. Wasn't sure what the story was with OnStar, but activated it and got the remainder of the year free. I got the 10GB / 3 month WiFi trial free too.

Re: any noticeable gains on ECO tyre mode?

Tried the eco setting once and within 15 miles, they were reinflated to standard levels. Handling was dreadful. But I don't think this is unique to the Astra. My previous Insignia also became horrible to drive in Eco mode and a previous Volvo S40 became totally wooden to drive in Eco mode too.

Re: What irritates you?

First off... love the Astra K. The items below are minor moans rather than any kind of major issue: The centre console armrest is too far back and set too low; The lower row of centre console buttons is largely obscured when in reverse, first, third or fifth gear; The standard halogen bulbs are drea...

Re: Do you greet other Astra K owners?

No I don't. If I did, I'd probably be greeting 1 in 20 road users... the K seems to be everywhere at present, since one of the local dealers began offering ridiculously competitive PCH and PCP deals and one of the hire car companies at Belfast City Airport took an extraordinary amount of Ks into its...

Re: Astra Options, Your thoughts are they worth the money?

With the few options I have: Tinted rear glass is brilliant for the kids - no more pulling sun blinds off the windows, or getting burnt to a crisp on long journeys through gaps in the blinds when they're asleep. Ditto parking sensors - pretty essential on the Sports Tourer and surprised these aren't...
