Just want to say hi and ask a quick question.
Had this Astra since November 2016, from a Vauxhall dealer at 2500 miles.
Now up to 23500 miles.
My view: generally very pleased, love the infotainment, heated seats, also have parking sensors which are really helpful

A few minor niggles:
Electronic handbrake failing to release (has done this on two occasions, anyone else had this?)
Infotainment, occasionally it goes doolally and claims there are no media, or refuses to switch on.
Remote central locking not working (once or twice could have been a signal blocker)
But these issues are very intermittent and would be very unlikely to manifest at the garage during servicing, but in any case are tolerable due to the rare occurences.
Also, i've never been able to get Android Auto to be acknowleged by the infotainment system

Quick question: Vauxhall seems to have pulled the 1.6T 200PS petrol option for new Astras from its website, anyone know why ?

Hi
Mine is 3 years old now, still love it.
I have had the same occasional electronic brake problem, maybe 5 or 6 times in the 18k miles I have now completed. Asked again to check it out when serviced a few weeks ago, no problem or error codes found. Just a small niggle if sometimes embarrassing when stuck in the road with traffic behind. Turn off and on again has cleared it so far.

Wouldn't swop it though, especially now the 1.6 is no longer available, keep it for a while yet. Taken out the full Vauxhall extended warranty, about £280 with no excess option.

The infotainment does have a whiff of the beta release about it. I've found with mine it's a case of switching on the ignition, wait for the needle sweeps to complete and then start the engine. Otherwise you randomly get the missing media or unresponsive touch screen.

Android Auto only appears on the early Nav models if you get it installed by a dealer. It was on the 7" non-nav from the start but only appeared on the Nav versions about a year or so later? (That being done was part of the conditions of me having the car).

The 1.6T as has been said is a pure GM engine and is due to be replaced by a PSA lump at some point in the next Astra. It wasn't a massive seller but is regarded as the best/most reliable engine in the range.

Thanks for those tips nsanderson.
Now you come to mention it, the previous owner used an iPhone and the infotainment system does seem eager to pair with with iPhones when their owners get a lift in the car. So I'm guessing that the system was set up for for Apple CarPlay and regards Android Auto as persona non grata.

Couldn't agree more, Pete! The 1.6 is a great car and it's a pity they no longer offer it as an option.

Like yours, my SRi 200 Turbo is coming up to 3 years old and I've just renewed the service plan, although I'm not sure whether to bother with the extended warranty. I've only covered 12,000 miles / 20.000 km in three years and wondered whether it was actually worth it?

Hi Cooldad,I have the same dilemma as you,- car is 3years old at the end of the month, 10k miles covered but apart from wheel corrosion which I reported to the dealer today I have had no real issues of any sort. At the moment i'm Leaning toward risking it,Vauxhall want £175 per annum I think.

Nice to see you back Cooldad.

I am in a similar position with my 1.6 T SRI Nav coming up to 3 years in Sept.

I think that I will continue with another Vx three year servicing plan, when miine finishes next year and trust to the Canbus being as reliable as it has been so far - they have been around for long enough now to be reliable.

I guess I will also have to trust the engine and mechanicals - but they have been well looked after up to now (No lugging, expensive premium petrol and extra servicing - brake fluid change etc.), so I'm hoping for a payback in reliability.

They only real issues I had were noises from the front droplinks and struts/mounts - now replaced and silent.

Fingers crossed!

My 1.6T is 3 years old today and generally it's been good.

Sometimes when I jump in the car and pull away in reverse the hand brake doesn't automatically release. If it doesn't release then I usually have to press the brake and manually rerlease it.

I can't seem to find a pattern that makes it happen every time but it always seems to be in reverse and after on just starting the car and the first release. After driving I've never had it not release in subsequent uses.

As others have mentioned Android Auto wasn't fitted to earlier Elite Nav's. To check if you go to settings and scroll down you should be able to see Apple Carplay and directly beneath that you should see Android Auto. If you don't then your car doesn't have it. You can have it added for about £100.

How much are people paying for the extended warranty?

Also are any of the servicing plans cheaper than just paying for the services outright as I was quoted something like £899 for the net 3 services when the actual cost with individual services comes to £660 at today's prices?

I think my extended warranty should have been about £500 but it was included as part of the deal when I picked up the 1.6T. It's a 3 year RAC, full return to dealer job covering all the mechanicals and electricals. Also came with a 3 year breakdown full (apart from European travel) cover.

I have question about service plan costs too. If you're using main dealers, the Service Club discount rises to 25% off parts and labour and 50% off MOTs so when I priced up against what another dealer was offering, it seemed slightly more expensive as the discount wasn't being applied.

My 1.6t sri is now just over 3 years old with almost 40k on the clock. Just had it serviced by my trusty mechanic and never had any issues so far. Considering a remap now but will change it in 18 months time so may not bother as its plenty quick enough for our roads as it is. Great engine and a real shame it's been discontinued. The psa 1.6 is not that great with timing chain issues and the dreaded lspi issues.

It's a shame that Vx did not push the 1.6T petrol, in its various guises, with the same number of adverts that you see now for the "Griffin".

Then - they had a realy competitive car - but, I guess the main board Execs did not realise it. A possible "halo" car?

BTW - What happened to the MD who was behind the Astra K at Ellesmere Port?

Ok so I took my car into Robins & Day Vauxhall Heathrow to get the infotainment system updated for Android Auto and guess what? After waiting 90 minutes and paying them 70 quid, it STILL doesn't work with Android Auto. No Android Auto on the settings menu, refuses to acknowldege phone when plugged in to USB (although Apple Carplay, still there haha) only difference is seems to have made is to detune all the radio stations. GRRR. Service rep went to check with the engineer, oh yes this is definately the latest infotainement software blahblah, such BS!!
