Asda were knocking out their Dexos 2 oil recently at £16 for 5 litres, down from their usual £22. I bought some for the previous 1.6d. Shame I can't use it on the1.0t.....
They seem to reduce it around twice a year.
The only oil Vauxhall recommendfor the direct injection engines is Dexox1 Gen2. This oil was developed espcially to reduce LSPI. I would think if your engine suffered a total failure and you coudn't show evidence of using this oil Vauxhall would refute you claim.
Having said this i doubt if many/any dealerships keep this oil in their workshops.
I have looked on the internet for suppliers of this oil and am horrified at the prices.
I found two suppliers:- Wesrway lubricants - £27.99/5 Lits.
Autovaux _ £18.47/1Ltr [equivalent to £92.00/5Lts
When mine is due for service i will buy the oil and provide it to the dealership carrying it out. And make sure it is written in the service book.
The problem might be finding a dealership willing to do this, especially as they charge rip off prices for the oil.
Been advised that all petrols must use Dexos1 Gen2 and Diesels Dexos2. I needed some top-up and on Eurocarparts saw TRIPLE QX SynPlus GM Dexos1 Gen2 5w30 1litre, paid £5.08 each including delivery on a special weekend offer deal. At that price purchased two.
Think my next service I'll buy dexos 1 oil & a filter from the vaux parts counter, they usually sell it to me at trade (as I ask), then have an independent change it and stamp my book. Keep receipts for any possible future warranty claims.
No doubt in the future Dexos 1 oil will come down in price, just like Dexos 3 has now.

I find buying the genuine oil and oil filter a lot cheaper from vauxhall dealers through ebay. Just over £70 for oil and oil filter at vauxhall (used to be £60 before the french thieves that are peugeot took over) but can manage it for under £40 through ebay.

Good price. The 1.0t looks easy to work on too.
Although if vaux had made it super easy for us, they could of put the oil filter housing towards the top of the engine, then I'd have sucked the oil out. Being lazy, not wanting to crawl under the car.

Tbh i don't mind where it currently is. All my previous cars have had it in the same location except the astra J. I've got a long breaker bar that fits under there perfectly. It's just all the screws for the floor pan I hate taking off😒😒 you'll only use about 3.3L to refill once empty so every third service is free when it comes to oil anyways 😂

Can't be any harder than a previous FL2 we owned, I had to take the sump guard off that to get to the oil filter, that was steel.... ..... Plenty of bolts to take off too. Although there was more ground clearance. Required a two ton high lift trolley jack to lift it though.
My previous Astra H 1.6vvt was so easy, oil filter housing at the top.
I've made a couple of low lift wheel ramps from a builder plank, just gives me enough lift to get to the sump bolt & housing (probably).
