Now before I begin, I am not telling anyone to watch videos or use these apps while driving that would be dangerous. This is more for your passengers or if you are waiting in the car for a while and want to take advantage of the screen :D

on XDA I have come across two apps which work on android auto and seem very useful (links are below for downloading the apks)
- YOUTUBE
-WEB BROWSWER

http://www.thekirankumar.com/blog/
https://github.com/nerone-github/WebViewAuto

just follow the instructions and will work fine on the latest version of android auto.

other apps which I am currently using on android auto:
- Spotify
- Waze
- MD Player (if you have songs stored on your phone)
- Tunein Radio

How did you get them to work? The screen shots refer to the head unit version of AA, the app doesn't have those options available from what I can see to make it work?

That's great thanks, the voice search with YouTube works really well but the browser didn't seem to offer a keyboard function to type, did it work for you?

yeah this one is hit and miss but there is a keyboard in this app. it is located on the top left corner. it always looks like entering a new url but this is not the case it will type where you want it too.

best way to use this app is to open up on your phone and save your url to favorites. least this way when you open on Android Auto your link is in the favorite sections. plays all video types as i have tried iptv and football which plays fine.

if your IPTV provide a web-browser login then it works fine. I use prestige ad they have a website you can long into and watch live tv.

Just a reminder to all to always install the updates on these apks as they are getting better and better.

Youtube app now supports playing videos or music from your storage device.
And the web browser has a new and improved keyboard

:D

Both apps work, but you need to disable all auto update on your android device and install older google services app (no rooting needed).
Pretty much how it goes:
Uninstal google service v.12.5 , reinstal google service v.12.2.
Uninstal AndroidAuto v.3.0, reinstal AndroidAuto v2.9.
Install either carstream or webbrowser.

Works like a charm. (just be sure to disable all upgrades, otherwise your phone or tablet will upgrade google services and that will disable using older version of Android Auto).
